Wow fresh new ideas at ferrari. What is he? About 75 years old? If they are only after his cheating skills maybe they are still intact.

If his mind is still sharp and he is healthy then he should go for it.

There's no worse combination than being retired and having nothing to do for older people. It's like a fast track to declining health and the morgue.

And to be fair he gave some of the background as to why... news is only as good as your sources, and if trusted sources also have out of date info...

This wasn't a plan made on a whim.
Things may have changed after the season end. Todt was head of the FIA who are in the sthouse with a lot of people now.
Maybe Ferrari were as outraged as everyone else and now want to avoid the association.

Ferrari have to be on Mercedes side vs the FIA as far as i can see so definitely potential conflicts

... Either that, or he's going for Président de la République instead!

If he has fingers on the pulse of the designers, team personnel and drivers why shouldn’t he succeed. I’m past retirement age but still work full time and I’m regularly requested by national companies because I achieve sales figures.

Well the Scuderia are certainly not happy about how things played out for Carlos Jr at the end of the last race. He was in 3rd place and didn’t get the lapped cars in front of him cleared out of the way, so he spent the last lap fighting blue flags rather than going after the two cars in front of him.

JT was apparently lining up a UN role (as Joe has said) so I was quite surprised to read he might be going back to Ferrari, although there was some logic to that and it came from Joe who is normally very accurate.

He left Ferrari under a bit of a cloud. If you talk to classic Ferrari owners you will discover what he did, and, if you are like me, be shocked. I'm surprised they let him back in.

Maybe it was Masi's call, maybe there was pressure put on him from above..

But either way, the thing to make Mercedes and Ferrari happy, and to help the FIA save face... is definitely to sling Masi under the bus and appoint someone new. We'll just gloss over the fact that Masi, for all his faults, is still the best trained person for the role - also we can ignore the likelihood that his replacement will be subject to the exact same pressures to support 'the show'. He has to go though imo, that last race was just too much of a howler even for modern F1, and it had his name on it.. bye.

Sounds intriguing. Is there anywhere online where the story is told? I know someone with a classic Ferrari but I can't imagine why they'd be a party to information which wasn't readily available online, unless by "classic Ferrari owners" you mean those among the privileged minority who own 250GTOs and the like and are very well connected.

Is this something to do with the history of a car that has chassis number 0846?

I’m a bit short on classic Ferrari owning neighbours, would you finish the story.
