Seems good for the price. Higher milage than some and the seats look a bit worn. I'm very new to 911s, did some research around Gen1 but not Gen2. Would this be a wise purchase? Hold value well?

I think the "value" will depend on whether you can find someone who likes that colour when you come to sell it. I think the colour, and the fact that it's a Targa, will seriously limit the number of potential buyers.

997s - plenty to watch out for.

Check out some of the videos from these specialists (some very helpful info)

Edited to add - the car in the link looks ok value (gen 2 Tagas are rare) and 4S but the driver's seat and the steering wheel looks like they have seen all of those 86k miles.

It depends if you want a cream targa?

Given it’s a gen 2 there is less to worry about.

It’s an odd, not particularly popular combination that you might struggle to find a buyer for when you are ready to sell. If you are concerned about retaining value a more popular combination of body style and colour is probably a better choice.

Nobody is offended by a silver Carrera coupe with a black interior.

I see what you mean. I understand the point about the colour. Are Targas that unpopular? They seem the best of both worlds to me, not to mention being more practical than the other body types. Don't get me wrong, I would suspect them to be the least popular body style, but not by that much

Side-profile you lose the classic lines of the 911 coupe.
It just looks a bit weird to me, in terms of modern pork, preferred it when they moved back to the traditional targa roll-bar look for the 991 onwards.

I don’t really know about 997’s specifically but Targa’s are generally the heaviest 911 body style, PDK adds weight, AWD also adds weight. The cream 4S Targa you linked might not be quite as dynamic to drive as other 997’s despite being very highly specified (and very expensive) when new.

Price is a fair for that mileage.

I had a PDK 997.2 Targa 4S

Beautiful car. But the least dynamic porker I’ve owned. Felt heavy with the weight all up there above your head too. Had I test driven before I bought, I’d have not gone ahead.

Also, it’s not really a Targa I’d say. More just a big sunroof.

My old one below.

I like targas.

That one looks like its wearing 4 times its milage.

This look 5 times cleaner inside....

half the milage, few £ more.

up close...

...looks a mess. Dings in the dash. The steering wheel is beaten up, how many rings did the owner wear?!

rubbers look uncared for as does the leather on the top of the door panels.

Torn carpet and blemishes everywhere.

Looks great from 20 feet away, up close I reckon its a disaster.

Agree with the above in regards to the condition of that specific model.

That said I personally love the colour, saw a Cabrio in that colour once in Switzerland and thought it really suited it as a cruiser. Horses for courses!

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. The car is a couple of hours from me so I won't waste my time going to see it.

I understand what people are saying about the driving dynamics. I play golf and have a small dog, so the 997 Targa hatch (which I only found out about recently) looks like the only 911 I could realistically get away with. Id have to fabricate a way of securing the dog, obviously, before anyone freaks out. But the targa seemed like the ultimate daily 911 with that extra practicality

Golf clubs will go in the front of any 911.
