Odd noise outside.

I'm at my parents place. It's in the countryside, which is a thing I don't truly understand but it's all green and everything. Anyway I hear this odd noise outside, a squawking, some sort of animal. So I follow the noise upwards with the torch, onto next door's scaffolding (property developers gone mad), up to the roof - and it's an owl! Talking to another owl! (I can't see the other one but I can hear it). I took a photo, but my flash is dim and my zoom not too impressive (oo-er). I'll download and see if anything is visible.

Sorry, but I've never actually seen an owl in the wild before. It wasn't making "typical" owl noises either, such as the Dorset owls do (have heard them but not seen them). Odd that my parents have been here since 1988 and I've never seen or heard an owl here before. And tonight there are two!

I live opposite a park and sometimes an owl will nest there. It's nice leaving the window open at night, listening to the twit-twooing.

There's a couple around us at the moment who spend their evenings bickering at each other. They do make a strange squawking noise.... not what you'd expect from an owl. The other strange thing is watching them fly, they don't make any noise at all. You'd expect any animal that size to make some noise in flight! The silently glide from one perch to the next....

If it was a sort of screech, it will be a tawny owl. Lovely to see, but can get a bit annoying night after night. We've got a pair that nest somewhere close. At this time of year, they are normally calling their young. We had three fledgelings flitting about this time last year, not heard them this year though.

We have owls and a pair of woodpeckers in our back garden... I like the owls but being woken up by the woodpecker "knock knock knock" noise every morning is quite tiresome.

we have the same but I quite like my alarm call.

That'll be two different owls if you hear that... an owl will only make a "twit" or a "twoo" - not both.
