Squeaky spring sounds
Discussion
Hi everyone, looking for some sound advice.
My car, a Nissan qashqai has recently starting making a squeaky-spring style sound.
Specifically, if I go over speed bumps it sounds like the metal spring sounds when people are shagging. Equally,if the car is stationary, and I turn the steering wheel, the same noise happens but more prolonged.
I've of course done online searches and, typical to Google searches about headaches ,I've had everything from my car is about to die and explode right down to bushings and ball joints.
Now of course, I am going to go to a garage and get it fixed, but any idea what the most likely culprit is, I want to try and mentally prepare a price for the repairs.
Also, I've noticed no difference to the feel of my car or its handling.ive checked its mot history and there are advisories on the bushings.
Thanks in advance you little beauties x

It could be many things unfortunately from a dry/squeaky bush that shuts up when squirted with silicone spray to a shock needing replacement, a strut needing replacement to a cracked chassis member.
Sorry, but you are just going to have to see what they find, it could be £50, it could be £1000.

I wouldn't use spray grease on rubber bushes, it will eventually perish the rubber, but the theory works, any of the aerosol underbody rust proofing waxes sprayed over the springs etc tends to quieten down all suspensions.
Best to give the car a good underbody hosing off first so you arn't sealing salt inside a nice waxy covering to do its worst.
That's assuming you can't find anything wrong, due to the current temperatures i'd be looking for broken springs first.

Hi all, I wanted to give you an update, as it may help you in future or even save a life.
Turns out my sisters new boyfriend is a mechanic, yesterday he offered to take a look as I could not get any appointmentd at nearby garages any time soon. Symptoms hadn't got worse or anything.
I could not make this up, literally as I reversed into his driveway this morning I heard quite the bang. Turns out the tie rod had snapped as I had parked. Just a few minutes before I was on the motorway. I feel like I've had a very lucky escape. As the car was stationary when it happened luckily it did not cause anything more severe.
I have learned a very hard lesson, no matter what the sound is, or how trivial it sounds get all s
t checked out straight away.
Went to eurocar parts this morning and he has now sorted it. Taking it to him again tomorrow as a few things are in the early stages of needing repair, like tha ball joints.
So apart from being lucky to have not crashed, I only have to pay for parts.
