Thanks.I doubt Lewis feels anything special about the fact the power unit can be successfully fired up though...
Tbh I doubt he'll think anything about any of it until he's on day two of pre season at the earliest.
It’s pretty much the same engine, but still a milestone to have everything integrated into the brand new chassis.
Better, and much funnier, is the debrief bloopers reel they just released https://youtube.com/watch?v=MvegX7XajV8
Who would have thought, that cornering engineers after they just worked all weekend and flew back from wherever to the factory, might not always go according to plan…?

Isn't it exactly the same engine they've been running this year, so not really much of an achievement to get it running.
No chance it is the same engine, it will be all new as is the Red bull / Honda engine.fttm said:

No chance it is the same engine, it will be all new as is the Red bull / Honda engine. As I said earlier, the only relevance of this is it's a milestone moment where everyone involved can go off for a well deserved beer! I don't think it will mean anything much to Lewis - nothing will until he drives the car and starts to get a feel as to how it compares to the other teams efforts.

Correct. And it's been on the dyno, they already know what it will do. The fact it fits in the car was already known when they designed the car...

Ha, true. It was probably in the schedule for 26th or 27th - with several dozen people knowing that meant working all the way up to that date. So they put in the overtime for a couple of weeks, fired it on 23rd, and went to see their families for Christmas! Mercedes image of a 2022 car. It probably isn't the actual car's design, but the nose and wing are different to the F1 demo car

Elaborate fake? Playing with the other teams heads? https://twitter.com/MercedesAMGF1/status/147726067...

I thought it seemed odd coming from the official Twitter account as it quite early to release an image if that is the real car.

It would be a reasonably good bet, that what we see at the first testing day looks nothing like that car!I thought it seemed odd coming from the official Twitter account as it quite early to release an image if that is the real car.
It’ll be either a pure Photoshop job, based on images of the F1 model but with some features of the old W12, or it’ll be an old mock-up chassis they’ve been using as part of the development process using existing parts, and completely superseded.
Even a poor-quality image would tell an awful lot to their competitors, and it’s somewhat unlikely that any team is going to start doing their development in public! The new chassis and bigger wheels call for totally new suspension philosophy, for one example, so there’s no way they’re going to reveal so much.
A good effort at misdirection perhaps, or perhaps I’m completely wrong and it’s a double-bluff, they turn up in Barcelona with that car!

That looks exactly like the F1 concept car, just from a slightly different angle. It's definitely not Merc's 2022 contender.
It really doesn't! To start with the FIA mockup has pull-rod front suspension, the Merc render is push-rod. The track rods are in a different place too.
