Rusty rear grills

ok, so it's only a cosmetic issue, but with only having bought my silver '98 Elise just a matter of days ago, it'd be nice to have it looking shiny even if it's just for a day or two!

The grills that cover the reversing and fog lights are rusting. Does anyone have an idea how to strip something like this back to metal so that I can hammerite it back to black? I'm figuring there HAS to be an alternative to a wire brush and I'm not paying Lotus over £60 for replacements on principal!

Any ideas?

could try looking for a local machine shop, they might be able to sand / bead blast it off for a couple of quid.

I took mine off and wire brushed them then sprayed three coats of hammerite on them. One of the easiest jobs I've done on my car.

I believe someone got theirs powder coated, that would be worth doing if you really are that lazy.

Powder coated? Now that's flash! - But it is possible with a wire brush then? Darn, looks like I've a fun weekend ahead of me then! Thanks for your help

Safety glasses, power drill, rotary wire brush, 5 minute job . . . once you remove them . . .
