[ Cue helicopter shot of the circuit with Murray Walker welcoming you ]

I haven't been a fan of modern FIA intros for a long time, they sound cheesy and lack a bit of grit.

I would love to see a modern version of this banger!

Coincidentally, I was thinking of it only this morning when listening to a podcaster berating the music used for today’s races.

I always liked this old piece but I also felt it seemed dated even then. Like it was Bernie’s very own, out-of-touch choice.

Remember it well.

My early days of F1 were Ben Edward’s and John Watson on Eurosport. (Always preferred the option over BBC) Reliability of the coverage wasn’t brilliant I recall with a fair few losses of signal.

Don’t know why, it has also just made me flash back to the DTM Eurosport coverage at the time (93,94,95). That was brilliant with those mega Mercs, Alfas and Opel. Also recall it was a high point for Indy car with some brilliant racing.

The new music has kind of grown on me since my initial hate for it.

That FIA intro brings back a lot of memories!

The Eurosport coverage included the Thursday & Friday sessions IIRC. John Watson was very good. I would religiously record every minute of each day AND the one hour overview of the entire event that they put out on the Wednesday - which was excellent.

And as you say, Indy car was very watchable at the time.
I lost interest in F1 when Senna got killed. I switched to GT racing, especially the British GT Championship but the death of Allan Simonsen at Le Mans took the shine off that for me.
