Highest mileage M57 3.0d BMW?
Discussion
I’ve run an M57 to over 250k miles. It was still very reliable and regularly gave over 50mpg. More powerful than when new. My second M57 is heading for 200k in its new owner’s hands. Again making more power than when new. Worse mpg than the 250k car. Current M57 is the most powerful and drinks the most fuel. Only on 100k. Oil change on all during my ownership has been 1yr/10k. LL04 or Fuchs fancy 5w30 stuff.
My 535d is on 144k (so not as high as you're asking about) but still going strong. Removed the swirl flaps and replaced both engine and EGR thermostats when I bought the car on 130k as a preventative measure.
I change oil twice a year, which usually works out around every 3-4k miles for me. I know it's probably overkill but I have a mobile mechanic that does it cheap so I'd rather have the peace of mind instead of doing long-life intervals.

I’m just about to hit 200k in one. Servicing at approx 5k miles, same it’s about a £80 job inc labour. So seems ideal preventative maintenance. I wonder if any U.K. owners have put 300k on one?

Also, on eBay a few months back was another E46 330d with nearly 500k miles on the clock - automatic as well if I remember correctly.
Personally sat on just under 194k on my E46 330d so I've got a way to go, but the MOT is looming and I'm getting twitchy despite doing what I can to keep on top of it although I think any potential problems are going to be with anything but the engine.

My pals 330d is on 277k miles and all its ever had are fuel filter, oil & oil filter changes and standard suspension / brakes maintenance
He changes the oil 3 times a year as he uses it for his business and he's up and down the motorways day in / day out.
It was his Dad's car (brand new) and he bought it 180k miles IIRC
It's tatty, but runs super smoothly still.

A bit unclear which M57 the OP means (or if it even matters) - x35d engines are somewhat different from eg the variants in the E65 730d.
Regardless, most of them will last over 300k if looked after and not abused with remaps.
Change the oil as often as you find practical and affordable (going by your username, you are probably familiar with the process), but there will likely be diminishing returns after 7k/1y (debatable).
Highest one I've seen/driven was a 306D1 on ~600k (new chain), but there are plenty out there with higher values (most probably outside the UK)

My TU2 has 'only' done 165,000 miles but is still running strong. Pulls like a train and achieves 40-50 mpg. It is a bit smokey but thats probably partly down to the remap and dpf having been gutted. Love the M57, it's one of BMW's masterpieces because of the combination of power, economy and reliability in my opinion.
I've had 5 330d's 3 e46 an e90 and an e92 (current). 4 manuals and one auto.
First one got to over 210k miles before it started to smoke and was replaced with another which got to 170k without issue. I had an auto which got to 96k but everything was wrong with it, injectors etc. when the auto box failed I gave up (hate autos). Next and e90 which again got to 170k with no issues, currently an e91 with only 95k on it, did nearly 600 miles in it yesterday on a trip to Cornwall and back.
Had loads of petrol BMWs over the years but so far the 3.0 M57 seems to have been the most reliable with one exception where the issues were all down to the previous owner and lack of servicing.

E46 ’03 330d here – bought at 77K Mine’s on 198,500 today, Stuff required so far…
EGR thermostat
Water thermostat
Harmonic balancer pulley
Glow plugs
Injector seal
Swirl flaps delete
Boost controller thingy x 2
Oil changes every 6,000
New coolant every year
All apart from the glow plugs and injector I did myself.
Town work and local driving - 40 mpg, commute to wok – 44. mpg, motorway @ 70-75 – 48+ mpg
Uses about “half a dipstick” (between low and max) between oil changes.

My 635 uses about a litre between changes too, must be common

E60 535d on 190k miles.
Serviced every 10-15k miles since new (I have FSH).
Recently:
Wheels refurbed
New front bumper painted and fitted (I hit something and cracked the bumper)
New wiper arm mechanism.
CCC unit (idrive) sent away and returned back fixed (Revtronic)
Serviced
DPF cleaned out
Vacuum hoses changed
Car is off road and being diagnosed today - little to no power at 3k rpm and performance from the first turbo I would describe as dull or blunt. It had come up with something to do with back pressure when checked at MOT.
