Where do you buy your tyres from?

- local tyre fitter
- online (who?)
- national retail group

It's been so infrequent but in the past I have gone to a local honest tyre fitter. Still the prefered way?

Can anybody recommend a tyre for a hybrid?

205/55R16 size. Currently on mixture of Bridgestone Turanza and Prestivo (??) but I'm not sure if there is a better recommendation.

Not a cheap double lucky happy roadgripper but something value from a recognised brand.

So many choices have confused me I'm afraid!

Many thanks in advance.

That tyre size is probably the most popular and therefore cheapest. Just go for Michelin Primacy 4 as they are silly cheap right now ( 4 fitted for £265 at ATS or even £232 at Costco if a member).

I'm a little bitter as I recently bought a city car assuming low running costs for tyres and the like to find it runs a pretty unusual tyre size and the Primacy 4 tyres would cost quite a lot more each than Pilot Sport 4 for a Golf R would!

If you really want to use a specific local tyre place just ask if they will price match the likes of Blackcircle etc. They probably already do work through them anyway.

I'd probably go to Blackcircles and pick 4x Michelins of some kind, depending on your price/grip/economy preferences. So as above really.

I've always found tyreleader.co.uk to be a smidge cheaper than Blackcircles. Nankang, Kumho, Toyo and Avon are all under £50 a corner delivered.

I always draw up a shortlist from tyrereviews.co.uk and have a look around the usual retailers.

Last time KwikFit were doing a deal on Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2’s and they were the cheapest on the shortlist out of the retailers I searched, so I just got those.

I have Goodyear EfficeintGrip on a BMW 335d, pretty happy with them, even as runflats.

Camskill take some beating (small delivery charge), Tyreleaders prices have risen a bit over the last 18 months, also worth checking out Oponeo, Mytres, Blackcircles.

It pays if you have a shortlist of tyres and know the delivered (not all the above have links to fitters) price, then i ask my fitting shop what they have available from my shortlist and see if they can come somehere near the total cost per tyre by the time you've had internet bought fitted somewhere...which isn't always that easy.

Some local fitting shops want to tell you what you should have, one local place had a decent manager who would find what you wanted and do you a deal always went there, he left, the new manager tells you what you should have and lump it, don't go there any more.

Camskill are usually pretty good delivered.
Blackcircles do both fitted and supply only and are great when they have a Michelin discount code (fairly frequently and advertised on the site)
Costco only sell them fitted and but dependant on the tyre size, often fit tyres cheaper than I can get them supply only (I have a tyre machine)

I have non run flats and find them a very comfortable and quiet tyre. Not as sporting as the Continental Premium Contact 5’s I had previously, the car feels more squidgy if pressing on, but more suited for day to day driving.

If you're in an area of the country with frosty rural roads and/or occasional sleet and snow, I can highly recommend Cross-Climate 2s. They transformed the ride and handling of our Prius over the OEM Toyo offerings. Brilliant on dry tarmac, too. 5000 miles in and they still seem to have the 8mm tread that they had from new!

Bought from Halfords when they had an off of 25% off 4 tyres, fitted on the drive cheap as chips.

Thanks all.

Can somebody sanity check this please as I'm a bit confused - I don't think this is a runflat tyre (I don't want runflat) but the blurb is misleading:

I have turanzas on my coop. Came with Dunlop blue sport which were sketchy in the wet. Turanzas are almost as grippy as Dunlop's, but more progressive and regain grip more quickly, and much better in the wet. Put the existing turanzas on the front, and get a new pair on the rear.

I just put 4 turanza's on the wifes A class - kwik fit were the cheapest & did a great job (Taunton branch).

The car drives so much better, quiet & the grip is superb down the muddy & wet lanes where we live.

That is confusing indeed!

Its cheaper at Kwikfit, unless you are just buying 1. 10% off if you buy 2 or more, 20% off if you buy 4. And no is it a run flat or isn't it a run flat confusion either.

Thanks for that! Gone for a set of 4 of those. With the discount applied a fair saving.

Glad to help and good choice of tyre.

I got a similar deal for my Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2’s and was very pleased. I probably would have gone for the T005 if I were replacing them now, because of this deal. At the end of the day, I don’t think there’s much in it when it comes to well reviewed tyres.
