I am interested in the opinion on these.

If you are somewhere between the positions, please explain where you are, and why.

  • Strongly oppose Health Passports in any form.
  • Could be used in certain circumstances.
  • Will follow all government advice and fully conform.
  • Believe that they should be mandatory for everyone by law.
Mods - could this be converted to a poll? Can't seem to get it to post as a poll despite hitting the poll button.

Yep; so that's 2 for this "poll" option.

They don't bother me, and if following the guidance means someone is less likely to die/lose a family member, then I'll follow the guidance.

Unable to convert existing thread into a poll, sorry.
I have toggled your poll permission off and on again so might be worth giving it another try.

I struggle to understand the point. Its repeatedly been said that being vaccinated protects YOU from getting seriously ill, but doesn't prevent you from spreading it.

I dont really care though, nothing you currently need one for is anywhere I will be visiting, and if they extended it to pubs or cinemas then I will get the app and show it as required and get on with my life.

I don't want them long term, but I'd say mandatory for the next 24 months. These 'free thinkers' that 'aren't sheep' yet have no medical reason to not get the vaccine deserve the inconvenience and disruption to their lives for being so callous and uncaring about others during the last 18 months.

If you've got a disability, your doctor should be able to exempt you from the vaccine.

Well, I already have a vaccine passport certificate. Had it for years and there's many places in the world I cannot go without it and many assignments I would not be able to access either. I'm allergic to penicillin and need to keep this fact written and with me. So adding Covid details to this and simplifying things in a single app or passport to me is not an issue.

I don't think it should be legally mandatory for the simple reason that this is one step away from a 'papers please' type society.

But at the same time, choice has to be taken in knowledge and acceptance of the consequences. So if you choose not to be vaccinated and / or choose not to use such a passport, that is fine but you must accept that you will be denied access to a life more abundant compared to those that do. The rights and wrongs of that are a separate argument.

Yet……… in my opinion, people should care because when if it comes to pass that mission creep extends the use, then it is too late.

But as I have repeatedly said, the things that the government can rely on is apathy, hypocrisy and “I’m alright Jack” attitudes.

Strongly opposed:

- Vaccines don’t limit the spread significantly, so why does it make sense for vaccianted people to walk in freely
- Ineffective, no data has shown them work anywhere in the world
- Divisive and authoritarian
- Bad for the economy
- Unjustified given risk of the virus

Anyone *for* vaccine passports, I would love to hear an unemotive justification in a world where the above are the accepted facts?

IMO they are pointless as you can also get into venues by showing a negative lateral flow test taken within 48 hours. So unvaccinated people are still free to enter, and any one of the vaccinated people could be carrying the virus and not even know (especially if young and healthy).

If you're out clubbing regularly you will probably want to check anyway, and its simple to do a test. But how will they enforce the 48 hour limit? Photo of test next to a phone with the date/time? I have an old negative one lying around somewhere, I must look and see if it is spoiled or not...

If they remained at lateral flow tests for everyone, that would still be a terrible decision, but at least the logic would make sense.

It’s always a slippery slope though, and there is a total lack of trust in any politicians promises.

Strongly opposed.

Lets be truthful here the WHO vaccine certificate is not the same as the passport. This document was all about having a vaccination prior to travel to an area where the disease is prevalent. At no time has the certificate been about having a vaccine in your own country.

Strongly oppose Health Passports

I completely believe in the vaccines, have been a big proponent of them, have had two and have a booster later today. All adults who can should get vaccinated.

But, these passports are a step too far. They are a huge overreach of authoritarianism and almost valueless.

Same.

It’s sad to admit but I can also imagine a few years of compo schemes in the future.
