R60 Mini Countryman 2016 SD - Headlamp washer Motor help
Discussion
Greetings one and all, I'm after some help...Recently my Mini Countryman 2016, SD, failed its first ever MOT in the 5 years of owning the car. The fail is on the headlamp washer jets not working. I posted some help on various sites and many people offered me some useful help and videos from youtube. However today I took off the passenger front wheel and all the arch details to get at the washer jet motors to find, that I could not find the Headlamp washer motor, as outlined in older videos on youtube? Can someone tell me if the Headlamp washer motor has moved?
I have the new part as I am sure thats what has gone, but after taking everything off today and not finding it, I wanted a second oppinion before I pull the full resorvior out?
Has anyone tackled this problem and got a solution?
I have attached my video from today and all help is more than welcomed.

Hi Ant
Look on www.realoem.com
Put the last 7 digits of your VIN into the box at the top of the page and it should bring up your car, like:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=ZC31-E...
Even though that's the Cooper S Countryman, it's the same outlay
Then go to the 'Vehicle Electrical System' diagram and scroll to the bottom and it'll show you what's fitted to your car, washer system wise:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=ZC31-E...
and:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=ZC31...
That shows you what's fitted and where its located
Your filter will be gummed up with cack; so really you need to remove all the pumps, remove the small filter they sit in, clean them all thoroughly and also clean the washer tank the best you can and then, stick with just one washer fluid from now on.
You can use BMWs on or something from the likes of Comma or Autoglym
It's the mixing of them that causes this build up etc

- Edit: Forgot to ask; have you removed the washer tank to see what's physically connected to it? Do you know if the headlight washers have worked in your ownership of the car?

Many thanks for the detailed response … I only opened everything up today to take a look but I’m yet to remove anything as I couldn’t find the motor.

I have used realoem for this but even the diagram doesn’t show where NUMBER 5 part, which is the motor for the headlamps is located? Is it behind the reservoir?
So would you say, remove the reservoir, remove the window washer pump and clean ….all I need to do is find the headlamp pump!
Many thanks for the reply

When I bought my current F01 730D; the washers didn't work at all; properly clogged
The day I got it home, I went straight at it and wheel off/wheel arch liner out only to find its more of a cassette style washer tank rather than a normal one as per my previous E39 touring, so it was a proper ball ache to remove (more so with my slab like hands). That was the only way to remove the washer pumps & filters too...
So I'd do that personally, least you've full access then and can get to all the parts you need.
As questioned in my initial reply, did the headlamp washers work before this issue?
The incoming harness from the top….
I can see wires going off to the pump that you’re pointing at.
Those wires appear to go further down, have you followed all them ?
If there’s a fluid level sensor, you can expect to see a couple going to that.
Failing that, and if there’s only one pump… Do the headlights always get a wash at the same time as the windscreen ?
We have cars at work where a single pump does either the front or rear screen, depending on the polarity switch. Not sure how that could work on the headlight circuit though.
And the other alternative, find the hoses going to the headlamps, and follow them back to the pump/bottle.

Yeah the Jets worked perfectly for the first 4 years of the cars life, to be honest I have only recently noticed it stopped working. They only ever work on the third depression anyway. At the weekend I will take a look again and pull everything off and hopefully sort it once and for all! Thanks for the replies and help. As for the other comment about it being on the engine side, Im sure I looked but simply could not see it? But again I'll take a real good look!
All Fixed and washer jets working. Thanks to everyone for the advice, the only main issue was the fact that the HEADLAMP WASHER MOTOR is located on the reverse of the water reservoir, so the tank needs to come out for ease, other than that, its an easy fix.

Thread resurrection please peeps. Appreciate the write up and video posted above.
R60 Countryman. 2014. Second car so driven occasionally but gets parked up a lot.
Recently the washers for front and rear windscreen AND the headlights stopped working. No sound at all. Changed fuses but they were fine. Given its intermittent use I cannot pinpoint when it happened. Recently had new tyres all round but cannot imagine a wheel change would do anything.
How likely is it that both pumps could fail at same time? Or more likely to be the wiring?
Do not really do much of my own mechanics but relatively competent and looking at the video I should be able to change the pumps but if there is another cause or wiring issue I will struggle to identify that.
Thanks
