Lets assume Lewis Wins this weekend and decides enough is enough done it got 8 why potentially taint my legacy if George beats him next year.

What would mercedes do? Who would they put in there? Surely Bottas wouldn't stay? Thoughts

Leftfield, given the link between Merc and Aston Martin. Vettel?

I mean this is all fantasist musing anyway right? smile

Contracts all have buy out clauses, Merc have previously sniffed around Lando too....

I reckon some money would change hands and they'd get Ocon in the car, Ocasr Piastri would then get a seat in the Alpine with Alonso.

Pretty sure he won't leave. He's said he wants to mentor George and at the moment presumably thinks he will come out on top over next season.

The more interesting question to me is whether it goes full circle; will Russell to do Hamilton what Hamilton did to Alonso in 2007?

I think he should stay on as defacto #2 next year. Hand the reins over to George and be the rear gunner that Bottas never was, unless George fluffs it in which case he can charge on.

I don't think he has it in him to not try to beat his teammate. None of the top drivers do; even Bottas seemed, each year, to genuinely believe he would be fighting for the title.

Well in fairness, Bottas is allowed to genuinely fight for the title.... It is just there is a Lewis getting in the way.......

Either Ocon, or poach Gasly out of Red Bull, just to rub salt in the wound.

Will George need mentoring ?...he seemed to do okay when called up to replace Lewis for 1 race .

If Toto walks in to Alpine for Ocon, he's going to have to get past Alonso , who will be doing his damnedest to convince Wolff that he's by far the best option to nurture his best mate George.

...and the team orders

...and all the mechanical problems that never seem to affect Lewis' car

There is a massive elephant in the room on this question, which is the new regulations coming next year.

Each team will be up-selling how close their computer says the new car will be, compared to the old one - but who wants to do an Alonso, constantly moving to a team on the way down?
