My Tuscan is currently shod in Toyo Proxies T1 Sport with 5-6mm of tread all round. The problem is they are tyres manufactured in 2015 which makes me feel a little uneasy about them due to the age they're getting to. With Black Friday I took advantage of Kwik Fit's 20% off Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, and have the mobile fitter coming tomorrow.

You're forced to pay £5 per tyre for environmentally friendly disposal of my old tyres, but they are actually still in really good condition bar the age so it seems a shame to bin them.

Should I ask to keep them and pop them on eBay or something, or should I find a car park tomorrow morning and have a good hooning session with the tyres? biggrin

Or should I just let the Kwik Fit man take them and be done with it?

The companies who take them off have to pay to have them disposed of, apparently..... Unless they sell them to part worn places.

If they're legal, you'll be surprised who'll have them. I sold some very old ones to chap who wanted them for his car purely for grass track racing.

Or keep them to put heavy things on, ever do engine / gearbox removal? I've seen them used in the garden too, sometimes structurally!

I can't advise - but will say having fitted MPS4s to my Tuscan earlier this year, they are spot on!

I'm not a hyper sensitive driver, so I'll be interested to see if I can notice the difference! However, the consensus seemed to be these are the best ones to go for...and with 20% off I couldn't resist.

I looked at buying 4x225/40-18 Michelin tyres from Kwik-fit but my local tyre fitter was £40 cheaper. They were a nominated fitter for Michelin's £50 off offer but Quik-fit weren't. Also the 20% offer was only on the price of the actual tyres then fitting, valves & disposal were added at full price.

Get them on ebay.
One Man's ste is another Man's Treasure!
I've sold half worn tyres to Taxi drivers a few times.
Just price them right.

I shopped around a few places online, but not got time to be ringing up/visiting places to be honest.

I got 2 x 235/40/18 and 2 x 255/40/18's for £530 quid, which was the best I could find and they come to me to fit.

I've recently sold a pair of half used discs and pads!
Up for £45 took £30
Unbelievable!!!
They would have normally gone out for the Scrap Lads, but a colleague said put them on Facebook marketplace first.
People will buy anything, bloke drove 30 miles to collect them?

Used tyres are great if you own horses - useful for putting water buckets in, out in the field.
The horses tend to knock them over otherwise.

I'd eBay them too. Even if you sold them for 99p, you are still a good £20 up from not having to pay for their disposal through the tyre man.

...And, don't forget, scrap discs can be sold as Christmas tree stands/bottom weights!

Apparently kwik fit considered my tyre swap premature

I guess they don’t consider the tyre age whistle

Going to pop them on eBay next time there’s a £1 listing day…thanks for the input everyone

So why is there a £2 disposal fee per tyre on the invoice if you still have the old ones? scratchchin

Personally, I've never found Kwik Fit to be the most suitable tyre provider, but that seems a good price for Michelin PS 4. Even cheaper than my 'local' supplier. smile

Good point about the £2 fee…I’d not noticed it, but in the big scheme of things I’m not bothered.

The price was good, and I read on here that someone recommended mobile tyre fitters as they do one at a time so no chance of the alloys getting mixed up

Keep the tyres. Order some hooks for the garage wall from fleabay, which cost next to nothing delivered. Then you have a spare set for te next time you need some tyres, but they are on back order because of Covid/Brexit/lockdown/Boris Johnson/French fisherman blockading ports/inflation/wrong kind of snow.....whatever the excuse of the day will be.

They've overinflated them by 10psi if the print out is to be believed.
