I want a physical remote as opposed to using via a phone app, currently have a Logitech harmony which is playing up and I believe Logitech are ditching support, so wondering what is the best option?

It needs to control a Sonos surround sound, tv, bt Freeview box, Nvidia shield TV, plus other smart options would be a bonus?

Unfortunately there is nothing close to Harmony at the moment in the retail / consumer channel.

There are some in the Pro-Sumer / Installer sectors which I am working on making available to people who know what they are doing.

Next year we are expecting to see SofaBaton (stupid name) and YIO enter the market but how good their data base and price point is unknown at the moment.

I'm a Harmony user with an understairs cupboard full of devices and a need to control them when Logitech decide to pull the plug on the servers, which could occur whenever they get bored, I guess.

I'm surprised no-one on Pistonheads has mentioned Broadlink. Specifically the Broadlink RM4 Pro, it's less than £50 on Amazon has IR and RF functionality and hooks up nicely with smart devices like Alexa and has an app for either running on a phone or perhaps dedicated tablet.
It gets pretty good reviews and only seems to be missing Bluetooth, which is slightly annoying as I use that to turn an XBox on/off in place of the controller.

Thanks for the replies, do any of these options have a physical remote?

didn't realise Logitech were stopping manufacture of the Harmony remotes, thanks for the heads up.

Having had a Harmony 1100 for ages (loved the small tablet style) which I upgraded a few years back to Harmony Elite (love it) for controlling hifi & AV set-up.... fans, lighting in my living room

nothing seems to come near it looking on line, and given Logitech's commitment to ongoing support to Harmony it buy another one IMHO

We have control 4 with the Neo remote. It will likely need professional installation, but the results are excellent.

Where are we at on this?

Allways toyed with the idea but everything seems a bit lacking. But Have a silly amount of remotes now.

Sofabaton X1 looks nice and seems to offer a lot. With IR teaching I recon it should work the ceiling fan too! But reviews are polar, every other one claims you can talk to Jesus on it and every second one is current packaging it up for return. Who's telling the truth.

A lot depends on the individual user's expectations.

I'm trying to get my Harmony Elite set up again, the app is getting stuck on the Connecting to Harmony servers page.

I've tried quitting and restarting the app, unplugging the Harmony hub and plugging in again, the hub reset button, turning the router off and on again, nothing is working to get the server connection to work. Any ideas?

As I understand it, Harmony have removed all support for their all in one remotes. Mine no longer connects either. Looking for alternatives at the moment

Same here, very annoying isn't it! If you happen to find a good replacement please say.

In that case, back in the box and off to CEX it goes.

I was looking around at others, on the spendy side, Sofabaton seems well rated, I'm not sure of compatibility yet though (Philips Ambilight TV, Philips isn't listed on their page https://www.sofabaton.com/products/x1s/compatibili...

There's also Unfolded Circle, but they are in-between versions with the v2 sold out and the V3 on pre-order https://www.unfoldedcircle.com/

I'd prefer one with a screen, still looking for something cheaper.

I've had to switch to Sofabaton as the software for Harmony on the Mac has become useless and makes reprogramming my x2 Harmonys very hard.

The Sofabaton does Bluetooth as well as IR. It's about as user friendly as DOS, and often is inconsistent with the signal it sends out it seems. I've managed to get one programmed to suite needs and it works fine 99% of the time. You also cannot 'save' configuration to install onto a different remote if you loss/need to add another remote.

For £50 though it's something I can live with.

If your sources have eARC then in theory all (or most functions) should be controllable through your Freeview remote........I think wink
