From what I can see they don't exist so you won't

Yes, unfortunately that seem to be the case.
Was hoping somebody knew of anyone still making that size or possibility of having a custom size made ?

Bored of my 18 x 10s and looking to have a custom set of 17x10.5
Want to maintain similar rolling diameter or keep within the allowed tolerance.
255/40 r17 are plentiful in supply but looks a bit skinny especially with the stretch on a 10.5 rim.
275/40 r17 too heavy and could have rubbing issues.

Consider a similar size which might fit and give similar diameter e.g. 270/35 (although an actual calculation would be wise..)

Yes and 265/40 r17 seems the best fit, but other than a used pair of Michelin PS2 and a single Toyo (all 3 currently on ebay), I cant find any new ones.

Not a Porsche aficionado, but these 18x10 (rears) have 285/30…

285/35/17 would be close alternative to those in the advert.

Are you running same width front and rear?

Thats right Dave, 285/30 were std fit for 18s on widebody cars.
Those same 18x10 were an option on NB cars (though a different ET) and fitted with 265/35. (I know guys who still fit 285/30 to the NB cars though the arches will eventually get peppered).

To clarify, I am only asking for the rear, as fronts sizes are readily available.

I am down sizing to 17's which were the std wheel for NB cars ( other than the RS).
Factory 17s were 9'' wide at the rear and shoed with 255/40.

Wanting a subtle fatty tyre look with 17x 10.5''.
275/35 r17 could work, but they are non existent.

I'm with you now.

Could you get a bigger offset to bring the wheel in 5mm or sob and run the 285?

Even within the same numbers tyres can be different sizes.

I've had say 888's at 275/40x18 and they are smaller than my current PS4's at 275/40x18

And I would expect a more generic cheap tyre would be smaller than both of those. Various 285/35x18's I've had are smaller overall than the above pair, despite being 285

Although on a 10.5" rim, I'd be searching out at least a 285

275/40x17 is a pretty common size at least in the US. Various tyres of that style and some softer more drag oriented tyres. But shipping from the US is expensive.

Not enough clearance on inner wheel well, I am afraid.
In any case 285/35 r17 is another non existent size.

Yes, I have come across this too.
From what I've heard, Michellin PS2 offers the widest width for a given number ?

As for 275/40 R17, I can get Nankangs, Marshall, Nexen and Michellins, here in the UK.. But as mentioned earlier, I want to avoid this size as it will blunt acceleration with the taller rolling diameter and added unsprung weight (they are heavy).

You're overthinking things. Do you also have the lightest wheels possible too ?

Yes, they are lighter than the hollow spoke 18's I've got now.
But if I put 275/40s on that may negate the weight savings of the new 17" wheel

Is it a race car?
Is compromising on tread/compound worth it for lower weight?
