992 Turbo S Sports exhaust or standard exhaust?
Discussion
New poster here, loitered around for years and have enjoyed and learnt a lot.
Have sign off from the wife to get a deposit in on a Turbo S Coupe so I’m busily and excitedly messing with specs. Before anyone pi88es on my chips I realise I have a an age to wait.
Judging by majority of 992 having the sports exhaust option I’m clearly in the minority that prefers the look of the standard offering. It is just less ‘Audi’. Non meant to everyone with sports exhaust.
Would welcome thoughts on pros and cons.

Standard exhaust for me every time. My reasoning is I much prefer the standard exhaust quad pipe look and the sports exhaust doesn't save weight or improve performance whatsoever. Even in sound its not going to make it great just more pops and bangs which I don't appreciate.
Thanks for your reply, we’re on the same page. Here’s what I’m thinking currently.

Pretty much identical to what I'd order, can't even begin to imagine any 911 Turbo in any colour apart from Black. Personally I love the Sport-Tex seat centres with Crayon stitching more than leather on 992s. Here’s what I’m thinking currently.

Not sold on the Sport-Tex if I’m truthful but I hear you on the Crayon stitching. Current choice looks bland, will add contrast stitching for sure. gregd said:
That looks good with the standard pipes. I like the Sports Exhaust more than the standard Carrera and Carrera S exhausts but on the Turbo the squared off quad pipes are fine IMHO unless you need the extra noise. The look of them differentiates the Turbo from the other models.
For me the sports exhausts look as if they’re straight out of the VW/Audi parts bin and the sound difference is marginal imoI agree the standard quad pipes look best. They’re a key feature to the Turbo model line in my view. I’ve been led to believe the sports exhaust is mechanically the same as standard with just software changes for the valves and fuel timings which makes the price something of a rip off. Hopefully there might be a good aftermarket option in time to better control the valves eg an always open mode.
I have a turbo S at the moment, with a replacement ordered and due Oct 22. The current car has standard exhaust, standard suspension and no lift, a cooking version. That said, for mainly road use and an occasional track day it is still pretty handy.
I’ve now amended the new car spec to delete sport exhaust and lift, I find Surround View (KA6) too distorted to be much use so will delete that also. LCA (7Y1) blind spot monitor is worth having in my view.

Interested to hear more on the lift. Been suggested this is a must have so would like to know if you’ve encountered any issues. Going standard exhaust on mine as others have rightly said the standard exhausts look much better and there is only minimal difference in sound and the sports exhaust is too farty.
Good to hear. When is your build? Being waiting long? Hoping that once the deposit is loaded I may be offered an earlier build. Wishful I know 🙄Mine is a keeper and I've had it since April
My Spec
White (Solid like old Grand Prix White)
Black exclusive wheels with yellow calipers
Metal Sunroof (like the 80's)
Clear windows (no rear tints/no ugly children)
Suspension (not Lowered)
No Lift (why lower it - then need to higher it)
Black sport tex interior with white trim (Sport Tex really looks good)
Blind spot warning (forget to look)
Standard exhaust (Looks so much better than those oval ones)
Look out for the Carfection turbo s report on youtube this guy knows his stuff
Would I change anything.............. NO, it's perfect, just the way it is

I’ve got a 992 GT3 and Turbo S. Neither have lift and neither have ever scraped speed humps or ramps. I had lift on a previous GT3 and never used it. Agree with the standard exhaust, a Turbo S is an Uber barnstormer, not a ‘look at me’ kind of motor.
I note that people have discussed the 10mm lower suspension. I’d definitely recommend trying a car with and without first. The standard suspension is already pretty firm and it’s not like the Turbo is track focused.
One option I should have got is Burmeister. I have it on my Taycan and whilst the Bose is good, I will definitely be ordering it next time.
Porsche Innodrive is pretty good and whilst it’s not full self drive, it’s makes motorway driving much easier.
I’d also recommend the glass sunroof, especially on a black on black car to lift the interior.

Lift. The turbo S has a pneumatic front splitter. When this is retracted the clearance to the ground at the front of the car is around 190mm. The lowest points of the underside are the front brake ducts but they are in line with the wheels and so present less of a clearance issue. By comparison the clearance for the front splitter on the 991.2 GT3 is around 120mm. Personally, I find lift on the GT3 quite useful, especially negotiating some of the more aggressive speed humps on the Continent. The fact it deploys in around 7secs is a bonus. But even when deployed the ground clearance is less than the turbo without lift.
10mm lower suspension. This would bring no benefit to me and simply deliver a harsher ride The lower suspension is part of the lightweight package but £6809 seems an expensive way of saving 30kg on a car weighing in at 1640kg DIN.
My thoughts are to leave the dynamics of the car as standard and direct any spare cash towards the deviated stitching department.

Appreciate the detailed response. Wasn’t 100% on the lift necessity so this has really helped. Yep, PASM - I hear you. Sunroof will be added now I’ve ditched the lift. Burmeister is a tricky one. We decided not to have it in our G Class and if I’m truthful we’ve not missed it. Bit of an audiophile so for me the debate of acoustics in a noisy small enclosed arena rages on. Agree with the standard exhaust, a Turbo S is an Uber barnstormer, not a ‘look at me’ kind of motor.
