Wood burner ID help?

Massively random long shot but hoping to reclaim and restore this wood burner. Will have access to it at the weekend but wondered if anyone might be able to ID it?
Possible it could be from the 1920’s, could be Dutch (I’m really hoping it’s a nice vintage thing). May just be an unsalvageable piece of tat.

Brilliant find. Thank you. I’ve attempted an enquiry but appears to be for hire only. To be honest if it’s still serviceable I’d like to put it in to use as attempting an Art Deco theme interior on a new project.

As a backup, how about a Chappee 8007

Seem to be enough of them about and they have some great deco styling to them!

I don’t want either of them to go to waste but not sure if they’re truly salvageable. I’ve now discovered the whole world of vintage/Art Deco wood burners. Not in a rush but will hopefully have something by late Spring/Summer.

I’m all out of kittens but happy for you two have the above two for the Chappee? I was due three kittens last week but the finders didn’t come back to us. I’ll keep you in mind for any hand rears next Spring

I’m still out of kittens but we’ve salvaged another wood burner. Having scrapped the idea of using the vintage one since too much was broken and cracked.

Believed to be a GBS Mariner 5kw. Needs replacement glass and fire bricks and a bit of a tidy up.



Had the Clarke burner going last night on the Barge and was still heat in her this morning without any top up.

How much fluff for some glass?

All I know is I need new glass for my Stovax because I managed to crack it with my elbow … don’t ask! Found some on Amazon for £25 but I guess it depends how easy it is to source glass for your stove.

We've got an old one that has mica sheets instead of glass. I haven't tried monkeying around with it yet, but I'd hazard a guess that mica might make for an easier DIY fix than glass.

Hi i have a Chappee 8007 and the mica needs replacing. I dont know how to do this as the side opening is very minimal. Can i just glue mica pieces from front of stove? Sorry for inexperience!

I also have a Chappee 8007 in blue which i am trying to see if its viable to get up and running. I was only just looking at the Mica on mine yesterday and i came to the conclusion that in order to change out any of the panels i would have to remove the whole circular panel on the front... Looks to be held in with a series of small threaded connectors on the inside.. A good soak with some penetrating oil ahead of trying to loosen any will defo be needed.

@Kat - I have some questions about the Chappee that i am really hoping you may be able to help with?

1) Does it have any fire bricks inside? mine came with 2 shaped bricks (Broken) which i cant figure out where they are meant to go.. I was thinking just in the base of the firebox.

2) What is the baffle arrangement at the top of the firebox? (Maybe the broken bricks are the remains of the baffle?)

Any info / photos of the inside of the fire would be very much appreciated.

Hi, a little late, but came across this thread as I'm searching on any tips on how to revitalise a chapee word burner , exactly like the one you all were talking about.
Any tips on where to get the mica "glass" ?
Any tips on cleaning the enamel outer ?
And Any tips on converting it to bioethanol ? I believe it to be quite straightforward ??

Bumping this so you may get answers from others.

We abandoned the idea of using this burner and salvaged another in the end. The Dutch Barge is up for sale now and we’ve moved on to a 63’ narrow boat project in which we will be installing a range burner!

I’ve looked at Bioethanol conversions before (you tube etc) as I have a few Bioethanol burners in my house. The fuel is costly unless bought in bulk but you can’t store huge amounts. They let off a reasonable heat and are nice to have going for a few hours but that’s about it. I thought about running one in my van but diesel heaters are a much better option (a mate has installed on on his boat and in his flat!)
