Bought the car just about a year ago and has always had a problem where the gear change becomes stiff/sticky when the engine has warmed up on a longer drive. The stick also doesn’t like to self centre when it gets to this point so coming out of second you have to move it over yourself to get to 3rd rather than basically pushing up, self entering and then up again to third

I have adjusted the linkages and it improved the shift when cold, but i still have the same issue when the car warms up

Any suggestions?

Could always try doing a gearbox oil change. What's the mileage?

Mileage is 72k

Been looking into a change, wouldn’t happen to know the plug hex size would you? Seen conflicting info of 14-17mm

No idea on the plug size. Mileage isn’t that high but for the sake of £30 or so it’s worth doing to see if it solves your issue.

Problem solved for anyone else with similar issues, it was the below part, didn’t actually need replacing just needed some grease as you could feel it sticking when shifting

Smooth as anything now!

Hello,

Hope all is well.

I am having the exact same issue with my 2010 VW Tiguan 5n 2.0tdi. It’s the 6 speed manual and the gears are so hard to get into. I’ve greased up the ball joint thing under the gator and it did help a bit but after a long drive the gear stick goes really stiff. I can see in your post you solved the issue however cannot see the part that was used or where to look. If you could let me know I’d really appreciate it.

TIA
