Unless your desire is to be champion of the Traffic Lights Grand Prix I'd -
  • Forget the 4WD
  • Get a manual

The only pros for me for the M2C over the M4x4...are the smaller size and lower weight, plus you could also argue that the DCT offers more drama than the ZF8 auto will.

For everything else I'd rather have the M4x4 over the M2C all day everyday. The M4x4 is available with the sexy carbon seats, plus you get all the newer tech. Also you have the switchable 4x4 system that offers the best of both worlds for me. The performance of the M4x4 is also in a completely different league to the M2C I reckon as well.

What are you waiting for? Just do it! biggrin

Not sure the benefits are limited to traffic light GP (not even sur that's a thing). As a powerful all rounder car I can see the point of 4wd and auto. Must be quite useful on a long and wet commute actually.

What sort of car do you want?

I've never driven an M2, but as an M4xD owner I can tell you they are really GT cars. Hugely competent - fast, safe, well equipped and comfortable

It is that GT angle that appeals along with the almost a super car vibe but, in reality, most of my use of the M2 has been twisty B road bashing; we’re lucky round here to have some corkers. My concern would be the M4 might not be as agile in that use; capable as it very obviously is.

I’m in no rush to move out the M2 but the M4 is calling

I’ve been tempted to swap my M2C in for a new M3 XDrive. I’m going to try and book a test drive shortly but justifying the price in the spec I want is hard.

Taking in the current value of M2C I would still be spending double, is really worth it?

There something about the M2C that keeps me entertained (having had an E46 & M4) - I bloody love it, it runs out of warranty in Jan so I might just treat to some Litchfield magic and keep for another couple of years.

Have you had a test drive of the new M4 yet?

No, I haven’t as yet… I did some Autocar researching to see who had got what and ended up putting myself off the costs involved. I also bumped into a chap at an event at the weekend who had a M2C with a few mods done that seemed solid, so I’m also pondering the Litchfield route to spice it up for far less. No rush

If the price difference was negligible would you swap your M2 for one?

TX.

I believe you can have the GTS setup on the diff, steering and gearbox, which is meant to transform the way the car drives

FWIW I went M2C to X3M comp with same engine and AWD as M4C. Perfect all weather work hack and incredibly quick cross country. But not something I’d choose for fun (nor is M4) hence have something else for that.

Not for my needs and preferences. And thankfully I don't commute anymore but I can see why it would be the ideal all rounder for someone.

The M4 is a big and heavy car but to be honest i find myself blasting down b roads just as quickly as I did in my m235i, it really does hide its bulk well. Dont think its ever going to be as agile as the M2c but may well surprise you (I have the RWD), get a test drive booked

Four months into ownership of my M4 xD and I've got used to wrestling it around. Progress could never be described as fluid, especially when changing side to side loading around an s-bend for example, but it always goes where you point it.

Mine was a just come into stock car at a dealer - wasn't an allocation against my name built to my spec.

And I know that many G8*s were held at dealers behind the 360' parking camera "technical campaign" parts shortage.
