E39 Rear panel a different colour?

Any ideas why this would be? Never been resprayed or anything, so either from factory or very early in its life.

Strange - is the car an individual colour? Realoem shows that piece as one panel, so odd that it would be two separate colours. Not sure how the factory would manage that, I guess they're dipped as complete shells. Would different UV fading over time do that?
