If you could cast your eye over these links that would be great and really appreciated so I can narrow down my search.

As you can see I'm looking at 5 door diesel cars, want something bigger than my current one (3 door Seat Ibiza) and a comfortable journey to work and back, 60 mile round trip mainly on motorways. Economical to a degree too. Also something that is aesthetically pleasing (although subjective I know)

Top budget would be about 17k.

Think the GTDs win this one.

Quicker than the BMW and Ford.
Nicer interior than the others.
Has the badge appeal.
Get good mpg and better engine than Focus and BMW.
Looks are subjective but I think the Golf is well received by the majority

Alternative is the Seat Leon with the same engine as the GTD or a 330d.

I’d second the Golf… I used to have a GTD, not the most exciting choice but the adaptive cruise control makes for a relaxing commute
