I’m in New Zealand and hopefully our borders will open next year - I’m itching to get to another F1 race.

I’m after your recommendations on the best race to attend that has both awesome track atmosphere, but is also in a location that makes a good holiday destination, with lots to see and do, as we have a long way yo travel (keep the Mrs happy!). Good racing would be a bonus too.

From watching Mexico this morning it looked like the crowd were having a blast, would have loved to be in that stadium grandstand. Is it usually like this, or was it special because Checo had a chance of winning?

So far I’ve been to:
- Melbourne numerous times
- Shanghai
- Singapore
- Monza
- Monaco

So at the moment I’m considering:
- Mexico, have never been to Mexico and as mentioned the race looked like fun. Climate also generally always good too.
- Austin, enjoyed the party atmosphere in Singapore and this looks similar?
- Barcelona, would be the Mrs choice but is May the wrong time of year to visit Spain and it’s a long way for me to go just for a race

Not F1, but from what I've heard the best place for an "overall experience" is the Macau GP...

I’m in Dubai, and want to go to Melbourne! Yes, the last two races have had a great atmosphere from watching on TV.

Abu Dhabi (been loads) is good, plenty to do as a tourist in the UAE and a well set up event with A-List after-race concerts.
Singapore (been a couple of times) was absolutely brilliant for atmosphere, the whole place comes alive at night.
Monaco, just because. Need very deep pockets though, but is a double-header with Barcelona next year and they are only a couple of hours apart.
Canada is one I’d always like to go to, Montreal seems similar to Melbourne as a ‘park’ circuit close to the city.
Monza, which is pretty much in the city of Milan.
Baku seems like an interesting place, never been and seems like quite a bit to do there.
Budapest is a lovely city, but not been to the race there.

Most of the European races are actually a pain for non-F1-fan visitors, if you go to Silverstone or Spa you’re either camping on site for three days or spending hours in traffic.

Let’s be honest, most of us have a bucket list of attending all the races!
I’ve done Silverstone, Spa, Bahrain, AD and Singapore so far.

Ref Monza above - great circuit to be at although some areas are difficult to get a decent view point from.

Milan however I thought was a bit of a dive. Didn't enjoy it at all.

Budapest is a great city & with decent access out to the track.

As you point out Spa & Silverstone aren't really tourist destinations...

I'd like to do Singapore, Austin & Monaco...

I agree about Milan, however Monza is on he railway line to Lake Como (Varenna station is about 50 mins) and that’s a much more attractive place to stay.

I’d recommend Austin - it’s easy to get to, the circuit is good, the fan base is quite quickly ‘understanding’ F1 and are a friendly bunch. Austin itself will probably also surprise you as a city - it’s vibrant, clean, good range of hotels and by and large the food is good.

Eta -

Why they don’t race in March (and it was freezing) -

And some restaurants you get to pick your own steak -

I've really enjoyed Austin, Montreal, and Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi pretty good if the championship goes down to the wire, plus there's usually additional testing on the days after the race, so you can sit close to the track at the Yas Marinas with a beer and watch the action for free.

Monza has Italian organisation issues.

Budapest is hot, easy to bribe security guards for extra access and the birds are stunning to look at.

asking for a friend of course.

Montreal.

It’s been off the calendar for two years, it’s return in 2022 could be an absolute corker of an experience for the city, I imagine plenty of entertainment for your partner during the trip as well.

But it might be wet. Very wet!

^^ This. Pick up the train from Switzerland and it's very pleasant.

I love the atmosphere at Monza. I pick the GA cheap seats, sit with the locals with a picnic and wine, then watch the race on replay to find out what happened.

Suzuka. Great atmosphere, some crazy fans, brilliant circuit, good food, and you can watch racing from the big wheel you thought was so cool as a kid. Go!

Spa. The track is ace, general admission viewing is very good so you may only need a grandstand on race day but that said, standing anywhere between Eau rouge and Stavelot would be a great atmosphere. Nice cities nearby to have a wander round. Tie in a track day there the following week before you drive up to Zaandvoort….

I drove a 1972 MG Midget there in ‘98 and camped. Brilliant atmosphere from the fans in the evenings.

Austin based on your previous events attended, then fit in a proper holiday afterwards, some great places to visit on a road trip, you could even fly cheaply to Vegas for a proper blow out for a few days, visit the grand canyon, go inside hoover dam etc... biggrin

... and while you're there, take in the Dodge/SRT NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

What a brilliant way to end your trip.
