Main dealer wanted £260 for both rear springs on my GTI so popped into Eurocarparts, chap at counter cross-referenced the correct VW part number for Sachs springs. Upon opening the boxes (Sachs branding) I see that the springs themself have no Sachs branding or ‘99x’ number on them. Instead the product code on the box stickers refers to Lesjofors springs who I have never heard of. The Lesjofors website does specify that these springs are the correct oem equivalent for the VW part number. Any idea what’s going on here and if I should just get my money back?

Sachs springs are a brand now owned by ECP in the UK, they can put whatever they like in the box.

Sachs are part of ZF and don’t make springs anymore but have licensed the name to ECP.

If the price was right, I think the Lesjofors will be fine.

Thanks for clarifying, sneaky euro car parts strikes again! Paid just under £100 for both.

In two minds at the moment. Autodoc has Sachs 994 633 listed but currently out of stock but I do run the risk of ordering them only to find out they’re also Lesjofors!

Could always give in and pay VW the £260 but it’s heck of a lot of money for two springs.

Any other recommended aftermarket brands?

Be a bit wary with Autodoc if you want something specific. They seem to send out whatever brand they fancy if the one you order is out of stock.

It's getting so hard to know what you are buying these days. I wouldn't have realised that Sachs was now just a badge on whatever ECP fancied supplying this week,

Yeah I had my suspicions about Euros and it doesn’t surprise me. Decided to return as read online that the Lesjofors may result in higher ride height. There’s also no dimensions on their catalogue and none on the spring itself so no way of identifying if I’ve even got the correct part.

Thinking to get Suplex from Autodoc as no idea when the ‘proper’ Sachs ones will be back in stock.

Are they particularly unusual springs in shape? I'd be tempted to try and source them from someone like D Faulkner direct.

I wouldn’t say there are an unusual shape no. Suplex seem to be a decent oem replacement so I think I’ll order them.

Went for Suplex in the end, along with Lemforder lower control arms and ARB links on the rear all from Autodoc for a decent price and only a week to deliver. Definite improvement in the ride and can’t tell any difference in the ride height so job well done.
