No, it's not a kitcar. It's a pre-production new model Pontiac probably due out next year.

Very nice

Will be the basis for the next Vauxhall VX IIRC. I think they have decided to build it now.

Very nice indeed. What are the chances it's LHD only?

Nope. As reported on this very site, the VX replacement is the Saturn Sky

Based on the same platform, yes. But I'm pretty sure that the VX Lightning has been canned in place of importing the Saturn Sky as is.

AIUI they are available. There is a Pontiac dealer near work, I might see if I can get a test drive.

Very good looking, but a look at the high profile tyres and small brake discs, makes me worried that it'll be another soft american wobbler, rather than a harder sporting european Z4/SLK/Elise/350Z competitor.

Ever seen a FWD with such a short overhang? (apart from a Traction Avant)

FWD usually has the front wheel by the door.

My sister has one on order - will report back upon delivery and scrounged hoonage...

Does it have a proper engine?

£16k sounds awfully optimistic, unless they're giving them away in the USA.

Looks cool! However I'd want to know how much it weighs...

Cars are pretty much given away in the US. A Dodge with 425bph is $40k. The Pontiac Solstice is $20k (less discounts, plus options) which is closer to GBP12k.
It's a 2.4 liter (sic) engine.

Latest US gimmick is "Employee Pricing". In other words, all purchasers get the same price that the manufacturer's employees enjoy.

My sister in the US had one on order but not sure if she has it yet. Hers was in black. Still prefer the Saturn Sky though. I'm pretty sure Vauxhall will come up with some naff design cues to spoil it, whatever it is.

BTW, for the hundredth time, all US cars are priced exclusive of state sales tax and delivery. Delivery can be about $800 and the sales tax varies as a percentage from state to state. Still cheaper than Tony's 10% import duty and 17.5% VAT tax on a tax.

Lightning was canned because of the bonnet rake and its inability to pass EU pedestrian safety standards as a result.

This car we see here is the progression of Lightning that is going to make it into production.

Chances are the Solstice will be sold here as the VX Lightning.

Yes, which is why Ford and GM are currently going down the pan!

It would be nice if the next TVR soft top had an arrangement like this - even manually lifted/dropped!
