Hi Guys, Just after a bit of feedback here. I have had my S2 for 18 months and it has been a joy, usually used in the dry. Coming back from Prescott Hillclimb yesterday (spectating - great day despite weather) and as M5 was queuing onto M6 link, I took the Black Country route. I always am very careful in the wet anyway but on one roundabout the back end was VERY loose. I didnt lose control but I was understandably worried (only doing 20/25 mph or so on exit as it was very wet). The car is on good Pirelli P6000s all round and pressures at 24psi. Do you think it was maybe some diesel/rubber residue on the surface or should I just be very cautious in the wet?
It hasn't rained in a while so I suspect the roads were slipper than normal. I got caught out in mine once - going down a dual carriage and it suddenly threw it down. I slowed down a fair bit, but obviously not enough as I started to aquaplane. Scary stuff, particularly when you're drifting towards the barrier with no steering! Fortunately I got some traction before it was too late!
I found Pirelli P6000 were terrible on my S in the wet and IIRC Wildfire did too.
I also noticed the traction control light was flashing in my BMW this morning when I negotiated a couple of roundabouts and I felt a little "shimmy" from the rear, again I'm running P6000 on the BM, they're pretty new so I can't justify changing them but I won't be buying the same when I do!

Sorry, no ideas about TVR's but the 16" wheels on my old Omega were shod with P6000's and for grip they were as good as anything else I tried (and that was quite a few) and better than most both dry and wet. Did have auto and traction control though!
The only times I had the back end go were both on track. First time was very hot and I think the rear tyres simply got very hot quite rapidly changing the handling unexpectedly and completely catching me out as a very novice first timer.
Second time was on a drying track where I may have strayed off the dry line just a tad and put a wheel on the wet mid curve. But I did have great difficulty getting a balanced feel that day and I think there were a few other factors in play.
Best of all they wore well and were much quieter than anything else - but I guess that is more of an issue for a luxobarge than a TVR!
Different sizes might give different results and compounds/patterns may have changed. On the Omega the recommended pressures were 31.5 all round normally. Much heavier of course.
There was a theory that upping the pressure in very wet conditions opened the tread and allowed greater water removal. May leave other issue for ultimate grip but I guess it would reduce the tendency to aquaplane and maybe give more consistency of handling.
Failing that the suspect would have to be fuel or something on the road or a duff surface.
