"Celebrities" at Grands Prix
Discussion
I know it's to everyone's mutual exposure and adds to the glamour, but I hate celebrity interviews at the F1. Very rarely someone is genuinely into it but mostly its bland soundbites that just make me angry that they are there to prance around at the expense of someone who would actually be enjoying it.
This race was a new low with Megan Thee Stallions big group of minders shoving our Martin out of the way on his grid walk. Why are these people allowed an entourage, its a sterile environment? and cant people understand that when they are in a different environment they should act differently? Imagine coming to a sport and acting like you're in a rap video. It was embarrassing for everyone.

The rule should be that if you can’t identify Martin Brundle, you’re not allowed on the grid. It would be nice if only people who were actually interested in the sport got to go. I mean, I see these people and think I would kill to get a walk on the grid like that, it must be incredible. Yet they are not bothered about the cars, the teams etc... but get a better view than I ever will. What a waste (and in the case of many of these "celebs", what a waist)....

Unfortunately that ship sailed 20 years ago and became a huge ocean liner when Liberty took over. It's not necessarily the "celebrities" that were the problem, it's the people they're with.
The whole thing is a marketing exercise for both parties. F1 looks good if they have a load of "famous" people around. The the "famous" have their photos taken at a big event.
It's one of those necessary things, but I think they need to be respectful and expect the media to be around. If they don't want to talk, fine - Just politely say "Sorry, can't talk currently".
They aren't all bad
Chris Bosh - Don't know the bloke, but seemed happy to be there and like a genuine fan with his camera
Ben Stiller - Apparently doesn't do interviews, but was still happy to talk to Brundle for a few mins
Shaq - Seemed like he was having fun. The dude is huge! Don't see why he was in the middle of the podium, but still.
Rory McIlroy - Happy to talk

I wish I’d seen that. I don’t like Martin Brundle. He’s rude and arrogant himself always butting in when a driver is speaking to a different TV station etcThis race was a new low with Megan Thee Stallions big group of minders shoving our Martin out of the way on his grid walk. The irony being that Martin is more well known than Megan in that situation and probably more physically at risk.Metal Guru said:

I might be wrong but I think he only does that when those stations aren't live broadcasters?Got what he deserved.

I'm sure at Monaco a few years ago Cara Delavine (might have been someone similar at the peak of fame/hot new thing) was on the grid with a literal circle of minders. Seemed ridiculous given the access and the fact billionaires and royalty had less obvious protection. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
