I need a bit of informed help please. My dad has just passed away in USA. I am wanting to ship his beloved dodge ram back to UK. Is there anyone who can tell me how expensive they are to tax and insure and fuel. Also info on registering and mots etc. Really don't want to leave it over there. Marie

1stly, sorry to hear your news frown

insurance shouldn't be too bad - the only thing that might cause problems for the first year is (I'm assuming) a lack of experience driving LHD (insurers: flux, brentacre, a-plan, classicline to name but a few)

Road tax will only run you about 270 a year, being a grey import

they tend to be quite simple to maintain (depending on age of RAM)

the horrible bit will be tanking up as, no matter what way you slice it, you're unlikely to be able to see more than low 20's

there are shipping services whom I've not used and it may be worth getting hold of some of them to find out the tax implications vis-a-vis import duty - on a truck I believe you're looking at 20% VAT and 20% import duty eek that said however as it's a family owned vehicle there may be a way round it. I'll leave that discussion to those way more knowledgeable than I

I'm afraid this is as good as I can provide, I only know it's a 1500.

To be able to export, you’ll need to be able to show that you have good title in the US. You’ll need to relocate to a port, which may involve insuring it. Once here, as you haven’t personally owned for 6 months you’ll be hit hard for import duty, + VAT then you’ll have to get it through SVA approval, and fit approved lights. It’s doable but not cheap or easy

And for reference, that is a Gen 4, 1500 Quad Cab with a 5.7 (345cu in) Hemi. You'll need to be driving miss daisy to get 20mpg.
