That’s a lot of miles! I’m fortunate to have a very short commute. Working from home for a year and a bit also helped to reduce my mileage. I keep toying with changing the 9-3 wagon shed as VED and MPG annoy me but there is nothing else out there for the same money52MPG average helps though.

I'm also considering a change. Have the diesel V50 which has been great, just care free, hassle free motoring and also have an old V70 T5 that's in need of a lot of time and effort, which I don't have. Debated consolidating both into one "do it all" car and mulled over anything from an old Legacy to a newer vRS estate to an S4.The opportunity to buy an old 2998 V70 diesel has presented itself and with it, brought up some serious mulling over. It's a very tidy thing and would be good as a cheap, simple yet retro cool second car but then again is it too clean to shed... and too old to act as a backup family tool. Plus I've had the V50 for years and for me, that speaks volumes about how good it does what I need it to do.
The old T5 I have isn't that tidy but has sentimental value so I bought it back with my rose tinted specs on but it's sat untouched for months, I simply don't have the time for a big project. Plus to use as a daily or a random blast tool, it's not that suited. It's the old head Vs heart thing as usual... and I'm sat on the fence, undecided. I love shed motoring and the freedom it brings but I sometimes miss having something to have a bit pride in too.

I keep thinking about my “shed” it’s a 2008 A3 2.0tdi Quattro I bought it over 5 years ago. It was fairly tidy then. I have done over 100k init and gets over 50mpg on a run. It is starting to look a bit tatty, I polished it for the first time in ages the other week and I thought this is getting a bit rough!
But I drove work init last night on the boring m6 and thought what would an expensive car do that this wouldn’t! I do fancy a Macan or 420/30d but I think it would be madness. Nice having a car I don’t really care about. It’s done nearly 170k now. Here is hoping to easily 200k+

We looked at a C Max when we bought our Mazda 5.
They were next to each other on the forecourt. The C Max was 1K more, higher mileage, and in much worse nick. But had the identical engine 1.6 DV6C engine in. So my takeaway from that was that the ford held a bit of a premium for being a Ford C Max.
I'm not completely genned up on the engines in the fords, but I think If it's the 1.6 diesel, go with 2010 or newer. The earlier 1.6 diesel isn't great for reliability, but the later one is OK. It's a super common engine used across ford, volvo, peugeot, mazda, citroen, mini - pretty much, in the UK, if you drive a 1.6 diesel, it's probably one of these engines.
So you don't want the DV6 16 valve engine, but you do want the later DV6C 8 valve engine which is alright.
Seems counterintuitive doesn't it - they went from 16 valves down to 8.....

Thats got me wondering whether the MK3 Focus is 8v or 16v in 1.6 115bhp flavour - that seems much more refined and robust compared to the 1.6 110 in the MK2. Update to the insignia saga
There is a metal vac pipe that runs to the actuator just behind the radiator, this has broken
He’s ordered a new part and will have it back to me tomorrow he glued it where the metal goes into the rubber and asked me to test it which I went round the block, this cured it but then popped off again so this proves the turbo and engine is fine!
Back to happy shedding tomorrow!

I did think so - excellent fuel economy too. The 1499cc TDCi unit that is still used now is also very good, though I'm not sure if it's just the 1560cc unit that has been fiddled with. I almost got a 1.6 in the MK4 Mondeo but it's a big car, the supposed MPG gap between that and a 140 2.0 would be gone in the real world I reckon
