Hi all, starting to think about replacing my ageing Panasonic plasma TV. Been reading threads on here and it seems OLED is the way to go as LED screens don’t give a superior picture.
Our current TV is 42” but has a say 2” border all the way around, don’t really want much bigger so think 55” will suffice.
Popped into Curry’s as I was at the retail park anyway and the sales guy agreed with me regards OLED and pointed me in the direction of the Sony TV’s, explaining these were the best sellers. The above model is around my price range at £1.5k.
The TV is used for watching TV and films, it’s not going to be used for gaming.
Anyone got any experience of this particular model or if the guy in Curry’s was talking rubbish?

Many thanks

I replaced my old Panasonic 42" plasma with a 65" Sony OLED in April 2020, best decision ever especially as we were forced to be in thanks to lockdowns. Picture is fantastic , sound good and no sound bar.

I replaced my old Pioneer 43" plasma with a Sony 55" AF9 OLED TV a few years ago. First TV that surpassed the plasma for picture quality etc (IMO). So very recommended.

The TV you linked to is one of the newer Sony models so wouldn't hesitate to suggest going for it. (Whilst I typically go for the latest/best on TVs to get the longest lifetime out of them, I might also consider an older/recently replaced model of the same line if the price was attractive enough).

(I think the A80 and A84 are the same set, and the former is on at RicherSounds for a couple of hundred quid less I think).

Im waiting for current models prices to drop before getting my OLED, from what Ive read the yearly differences tend to be quite minor. Im wanting the Panasonic JZ2000 but at around £2k I intend to buy of from JL and take out their £140 policy that replaces the TV if there are any problems such as screen burn etc.

I've heard Currys are very good for the first 2 weeks or so, exchanging the TV without question, but after that you have a battle on your hands. Hearing similar about Richer Sounds claiming screen burn and faulty panels are 'within manufacturers limits' and refusing to do anything. This seems to only apply to OLEDs organic screens.
