It's time to replace the family car, but I'm struggling to find some options. My requirements are;
Under £6k
Not too slow (I'm thinking about 200hp+)
Sensible milage (I tend to keep my cars for a while so under 100k)
Extra points for something interesting or unusual
4 doors & 5 seats

The best I've found so far is a Toyota GT four caldina

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, there's a few that weren't on my radar. I'm liking the focus st, Alfa 159 and BMW 130 so far. The road tax on the Impreza WRX is eye watering.

Obviously some models can straddle the March 06 road tax date where they introduced the higher rate, the Subarus & RX8 for example, so might be worth looking at pre-06 examples of those...

Probably the best 159 is the 1750 TBi, and the later 2.0 JTDm diesel is an improvement over the earlier 1.9, other options are a 2.4 5cyl diesel & the rather lovely 3.2 v6...and the estate is a good looking car too (not the largest in terms of boot space)

Just to finish this thread I thought I'd share what I actually bought.

I ended up completely blowing the budget and going for a MK3 focus st, I'm very impressed with it so far. It's in pretty good condition considering its a 63 plate with just a few stone chips and couple of curbed wheels
