Thinking back to the recent Volvo V90 thread, that has a 112mph speed limiter on it, and it would definitely put me off buying it.

Would it put you off buying a car if it had a 112mph speed limiter on it?

No.

I’ve never done 112mph in the Uk and I’ve never driven in Germany and never plan to.

If it was the sort of car that had the potential to hit that limiter easily and quickly (ie. the sort of performance that would see 150mph+ if unrestricted), then yes, it would.

No, not any more, as long as it had decent performance up to that speed.

In reality, how many drive at speeds in excess of that, and where can you? I've driven tens and tens of thousands of miles all over Europe and in the past 5-10 years there's been more and more cameras etc and I now find it more relaxing just to maintain a highish average; even in Germany it isn't as easy as it was.

Going above 90/100+ takes some real concentration for long periods of time, wouldn't put me off at all, and that's with being over in Europe on the derestricted areas, don't get it really

...perhaps I should hand in my pistonheads badge now hey

My daily driver is limited to 94 mph and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. In fact, it’s actually quite nice knowing I can’t get tempted into automatic ban territory on empty DC’s and Motorways.

I wouldn’t be quite as pleased if the weekend car was limited though…

I didn't buy a V60 simply because it was limited. I do live on the Continent though.

Absolutely wouldn't bother me at all as I haven't hit the ton since I was in my thirties. However, I do accept that, on certain roads, at certain times, in certain conditions, some people would rag it and so wouldn't want their car to have a 112 MPH limit. Imagine being king of the road in your Porsche Turbo and a 2-up bike comes past laughing at you as you hit VMAX and they sail past....

Yes.

Just because I never drive at or above 112mph on the UK public road (honest guv) doesn't mean that I never drive above 112mph. Like many I can also imagine scenarios where I would wish to have access to all the speed I can muster and 112mph really isn't that fast on an empty motorway, especially if you're used to higher speeds so I'd be rocking back and forth in my seat willing the limiter to disappear.

I wouldn't go to the effort of having the limiter defeated if all manufacturers go that way, mind.

In the US, where many cars have low factory speed limiters, the manufacturers take the opportunity to fit lesser tyres as you don't need a 186mph-rated tyre on a car that's limited to 112 mph.

Yes. I live in Germany, the thought of having to drive so slowly is unappealing. I can’t remember the last time I commuted to work at under 112mph.

For all I know any of my last 3 cars may have had such a limiter, but I would still be reluctant on principle to buy a car fitted with one.

It wouldn't bother me in a dull commuter car like the volvo
