I have wanted one of these for ages, no idea why, but when this popped up locally for £150 with missing front panels I couldn’t resist

I picked up a free front bumper and wings and set about putting it together, sadly the wings and bumper are early pre facelift items, I have purchased the correct items but these will do in the meantime.

I checked the MOT history and it’s tested until February. Result

I hope to have it back together and road taxed at the weekend

I like that, I’ll now refer to it as a sporty two seater RWD Mercedes laugh

Family has had 3, petrol convertible, diesel hardtop and a new petrol one.

Sister currently has the diesel one sat on the drive doing nothing. I wanted to get it mapped up see how pokey we can make it.

For £150, that's a non brainer frankly! Keep the spend low but get it tidied up, MOT'd etc and it'll be worth a good few bob more so given the current climate. Not something I'd want but you can't deny their appeal, great concept and hard to comprehend how old these are now.

It’s done 102k and I know all about the engine failures. The previous owner was a Mercedes Indy, it’s been given a clean bill of health.

Good work. Apart from the missing panels are there any other issues?

It doesn't have a sportbike engine yet.

It’s a little tatty, and the OSF tyre has a puncture but in all honesty I’m not overly bothered by the condition.

If it dies tomorrow I’ll get my money back easily breaking it, however I hope that doesn’t happen.

I once got a remapped diesel one as a courtesy car from a Mercedes specialist. It was undoubtedly the worst car I have driven, ride was appalling and gutless performance. Only got 40mpg driving home, where my V8 Mercedes got 30 on the same trip.

Still, very cleverly packaged car and quirky… good luck with your project!

That's ridiculous!! £150 is amazing, you can really find some cars so cheap cant you, not my bag personally but that is ace! Why wouldn't you!

What's the tax like on these? Hazard a guess, its either free, or <£30

Spill the beans then, because I've only read references to failures on PH, don't know the causes and poss. prevention.
