A F1 McLaren of a year or so ago had a wheelbase 4 feet (122cm for the youngsters) longer than the M7s of 1970. A lot of this will be due to the sensible central placement of the fuel tanks these days.
Come on now... We adopted the metric system in this country 56 years ago All this talk of new money.. pah.

The UK Government may have decided to support Metrication in 1965 but it only started to creep into use just over 4 dozen years ago.
