Good Atmos soundbars
Discussion
Anyone had any good experiences of the higher end Atmos offerings from sound bars?
I'm after a new bar as tbh the old JBL 2.1 has never worked properly it sounds "ok" but it distorts often I think it's signal issue to the sub and every time the TV goes quiet it basically goes to sleep even if it's quiet for only 1 second very annoying on you tube videos if there is no backing music and the person takes a brief pause it cuts out then takes a second again to come back on
So been thinking of the arc, no sub (extra 700) and potentially picky about TV it's connected to and Atmos working
Samsung 950a but don't really have anywhere for rear channels to sit
JBL 9.1 seems it has signal issues connecting to the rears (seems they aren't very good with wireless!)
Sony a7000 again no sub (700)
Any others worth looking at? Also nothing is in stock anywhere as is normal these days!
Budget id like to be less than 1k if possible but yeah will be what it will be!

I watched James Bond the other day in an Atmos Cinema. I don't think it's a big deal and would say get the best soundbar and Sub combination. A better sub (or two!) will make more difference to your viewing pleasure.
Also as very few willing people are willing to actually cut up/bolt onto a ceiling, speakers, Atmos will never take off properly. It will remain niche.
With a soundbar, you are already compromised on the surround effect, why add compromised atmos on top.

Most UK living rooms are compromised listening environments anyway
Yes a soundbar will always be a compromise over dedicated HT setup but as I can't have one a soundbar is what it has to be.
Atmos gives more than just height affects though
Also stipulating Atmos was more of a indicator I want a good soundbar not another cheap one

A few to research, above budget but you can wait for offers/sales!Sennheiser has released one, £2k RRP without a sub

https://en-uk.sennheiser.com/ambeo-soundbar Some discussions on it over on AVForums, but I haven't kept up.
Sony have just released the Sony ht-a9 which is a bit different too. £1.6k + more for sub.

I have an LG SL8 Atmos soundbar. I can write more if you like but:
Really good with movies, and does give a convincing Atmos soundstage, which I really did not expect. Rubbish with (2 channel) music though, difficult to put my finger on why but there just isn't enough 'noise' to it, not enough weight to the sound which robs the music of it's attack...this is all fine when playing movies so I guess it needs all the channels working, and maybe the .1 to delineate bass, to give a convincing sound. You can add wireless rear speakers as well.
I found I had to turn the sub all the way down and put it 6 feet from the soundbar to get anything like a balanced sound, otherwise the bass was way too heavy.
