Series 1 FHC window frames
Discussion
Hi guys
Took my passenger door off today to tackle the nylon bushes and the window frame nearly fell into two pieces when I removed it. It was expertly filled with bondo, does anyone know whether they are being remade or does anyone have any for sale (will need both sides).
I took the door bar off and removed the bushings, the new bushings (from Racing Green) just fall into the hinge, are there more than one size?,
If I fit these the slack will be worse than before I started. I need a drink!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Peter

Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge nobody has an off the shelf solution. I think you will have to try and find a fabricator who is prepared to have a go at copying what you have and if successful then maybe seeing if they can be made from stainless.
Sorry I can't be of any help and hopefully someone will be along to say I am talking rubbish and this issue has already been resolved.
Best of luck
Nick

The window runner/rubbers are off the shelf items so not an issue. The steel sections are just folded sections so will either be available ready formed or can be made by any well equiped sheet metal company.
Then the task is gently heating and bending them to the required shape and welded up. Will be time consuming which equates to expensive but you have little option on that unless you do them yourself.

The profile of the frames is more or less the same as a Lotus Esprit frame, so if you need to weld new sections in then this might do it.
I tried this when I had an FHC and it wasn't pretty. For the hidden section (inside the door) it's probably OK but I think it will take a lot of work for the visible sections.
However, I'm not aware of any other way apart from locating a secondhand frame?
