Generally the complaint is that it makes everything it applies to look a bit unnatural. It's referred to as Soap Opera Effect - SOE

Whether you have it set on or off can depend a lot on personal preference. I have it set to Off because I think it makes feature films look weird, but I know folks who like all of the toys switched on to make an over-colourful, over-sharpened, over-contrasty image with strange motion.

I don't normally advocate WhatHi-Fi as a decent source for tech info, but in this instance they've done a good job not only of describing what this does and how to turn it on/off, but also what else to look for in the picture that shows the algorithm's guesses making a mess of the image.

I hate it. It makes everything look like a 120fps computer game.

I used to have it off, but find myself increasingly annoyed by jittery pans. I have it on now but still can't shake that association with cheap TV.

On the other hand I've also been playing a lot of 144hz games, so perhaps I'm getting used to it. Is it not objectively better?
