On another thread the discussions showed a number of people are having issues insuring a French registered car whilst having a UK Driving License.

Is this a wide spread issue ?

Because I have had no problems and we have been told that UK licenses will not be exchanged for a French one unless it is about to run out or there is a legal imperative to do so.

So is this a new position by the powers that be or is it, as is quite normal in France, a local person interpreting the rules as they see fit ?

This, exactly.

Someone badly interpreting the current situation and making it up as they go along

My broker for AXA is great, no issues, however I know of other AXA customers elsewhere having problems with insuring with UK licences

Print this out and take it with you if you're having problems:

"Si vous vous êtes récemment installé en France et que vous avez un permis de conduire délivré par un État non européen vous devez l'échanger contre un permis français pour pouvoir continuer à conduire en France (à l'exception d'un permis britannique délivré avant 2021).

Depends on the insurer.
Some, like l'Olivier (owned by Admiral in Wales) see a UK licence as an EU licence, because it was when it was issued.
Others like Solly Azar see it as a non EU licence, because it no longer is. And they cancel your policy. fkers.

And yes, at the moment, to stop ANTS going down again, they are prioritising exchanges for people who's licence or photocard has run out.
