Tandem restoration

I have a Dawes Super Galaxy tandem which I plan to restore. I'm good with the repairs for everything except the stoker brake on the rear wheel: it's completely knackered.

I am wondering if it would be better to just replace the whole rear wheel with one of the same size and more modern equipment (perhaps a disc brake?). Does anyone know if a) this is even viable, and b) where I could buy one from?

I have a 'Dale mtb tandem. If you can... Go for a disc brake front and rear. Makes a massive difference on a tandem.

I'd also look at a thud-buster seat post for the stoker. You only need to forget once to call out a pothole on a rigid seat-post and it's a hell of a job convincing them to get back on

I'd also recommend the stoker stem I have. It's highly adjustable. I'll have a look at the make over lunch and report back.

Control Tech stoker stem. They're adjustable for reach.

I have re-read the OP and I would suggest getting rid of the stoker brake and putting on a drag brake,operated by the pilot.

Not much to add but you may struggle to amount a disc brake if it hasn’t got a mount on the seat stay.

Unless you weld some on or use one of those dodgy looking bolt on ones.
