The doors rattling on my S2 is now officially doing my head in. I heard that there is a recall for the striker pins as my car is a 2001 model, yet my car shows no recalls required when entering the chassis number into the Lotus website.

If I have the wrong pins would Lotus fit the correct ones FOC to a 4 year old car?

Anyone got any advice how you adjust them? It looks like someone has tried by moving the pin up and the door doesnt lie flush with the body.

Cheers!

Yeah let me know how u get on because mine are doing exactly the same.

It's only really noticeable when you hit a pot hole or go over bumps.

I thought it sounded like the glass in the doors making the noise, then I thought it could be the window winders. But I read on here about the recall on the doors on early S2's.

Cheers.

Yeah they seem to move up and down and not side to side but mine rattle all the bloody time!

Chris I see your S2 is exactly the same colour as mine and I also used to (still do actually) a red 90's Mini Cooper!

Same thing here but the rattling has caused 2 chips in the top in the drivers window from when I've had it down and hit a couple of nasty pot holes. Only way to prevent it is by not winding the window all of the way down which seems to make it more secure but still not great.

Mine did the same but cured it by tightening the catch pillars. They seem to work loose so just put a spanner on and seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps as I remeber it drove me nuts.

Had mine (Sept '01) sorted out under warranty early on as it also took paint off from the back edge by the window. I think it was a question of adjusting the striker pins carefully (and getting the paint touched up!).

I took it down to Mini 40 a few years back that was fun! Minis literally took over Silverstone and its surrounding towns!

Anybody got a link to some instructions how to adjust the pins?

mine is the same - no recall notice on the lotus website but the doors rattle something terrible.

i took the inner door panel off and tightened all the window assembly - as this was pretty slack. then put some duct tape on the stirker pins to make them a better fit and the noise stopped.

still got a rattle coming from under the drivers seat or in the drivers side sill tho - think this is the clutch cable but agian no recall notice on the web site so not sure what to do with this one tbh.

however 90% of the rattles are now gone - with only about half an hours work.

Ninja was it a simple job? Door panel just looks like 4 or 5 screws come out and that should release the panel? I'm useless when it comes to my own repairs and fixes but I'm feeling brave today!

yeah four screws on the door panel and one down at the bottom of the door too next to the hinge. the bottom of the panel is just velcro'd on and run your finger along between the panel and the door and it'll pop off easily!

don't forget the winder screw too

there are about 4 bolts for the window assembly and all of mine were lose!

very fast job tbh

There was a bit of a workaround between Lotus and the dealers to put a bit of heat shrink sleeving over the striker pin - the same as your duct tape fix, but it will wear out and need replacing regularly.

As for the clutch cable rattling - it's a hydraulic clutch, so no cable, but I think I remember reading about the handbrake cable rattling somewhere.

shrink wrap? good idea!!! you can pick this up from halfords i'm sure (or certainly from electrical supply stores) and then use a lighter to make it shrink - far longer lasting fix than the tape - i'll go and find some at the weekend and let you know how i get on with it
