I saw this running on the Goodwood site...& it looked interesting.
I thought I would start a PH version, with a twist.
( Wise or not).

Who, in your view, has provided the most entertainment IN MOTORSPORT over the years. There must be quite a few that stick in your mind.
I know that this will cover a broad spectrum... but ‘hey ho’.

I’m, obviously, open to suggestions... but I propose the following, just to keep it relatively simple.

1) Your top three choices. ( if possible).
2) Any form of motorsport ( to include Bikes as well)
3) Stats / success etc not important. ( Personal preference)
4) Don’t have to be World famous. (National series or anything else really)
5) Please list choices first, in preferential order

Comments are optional... afterwards.
Feel free to post any links... ( Liven things up a bit)

I will attempt to keep some kind of table & update... now & again.

So, please... let’s see your hero’s.

No doubt, there be a lot on here that we haven’t heard of or simply forgotten about & have our memories refreshed.

1. Colin McRae
2. Nigel Mansell
3. Valentino Rossi

I went with the first three that came into my head when I thought of entertaining motorsport.

Entertaining means always something happening, always excitement.

McRae was always flat out, always broadside. He always went for it and was always exciting to watch

Mansell always had something going on around him or with him. Whether it was coming back from 30 seconds down at the British GP or pushing the car over the line or passing around the outside. Great fun

Rossi because he re-defined modern motorcycle racing. I wasn't a huge bike racing fan, but in the mid-2000s you simply couldn't count him out of a win, no matter where he was in the field. He always entertained the fans whilst doing it too.

1) Nigel Mansell
2) Gerry Marshall
3) Barry Lee

The first two sprung to mind quite easily... #3 was a bit more difficult ( Toss up between Barry & Tony Pond...)

Mansell... Always entertaining, both on & off the track.
Always waiting for something to happen.
I was at the Silverstone, in the stand on Hanger when he done that epic move on Piquet... place was electric.
( watched it on Tv later... lost the atmosphere)
https://fb.watch/7Xj3SByB6u/

Marshall... Just loved his larger than life character & could he drive. Fond memories of his Vauxhall’s Big & Baby Bertha.
Loved the old ‘Supersaloons’ racing too.

Lee: Well known for his Hot Rod & Rallycross years...

Great showman, always entertains & spoke his mind.
( please or offend).
Many hours watching him, Duffy Colllard & George Polley on the ovals.

Bit diverse I know.... but that’s what it’s all about.
Great Memories.

Martin Schanche for lots of reasons, A he was very fast, B he was a nutter, C he thought he could do no wrong, D, he often went off script!

Rossi is a candidate, simply because of his antics early in his career, less so as he got older.

Gilles Villeneuve, though in his mind it was not entertainment, in everyone else's it was. Same for Colin McRae, but you could add Vatanen, Toivonen and maybe even Meeke to that list.

Garry McCoy, the first time you saw it you thought it was a mistake, then you realised he was doing it on purpose.

James Stewart, some the things he could do on a bike were simply out of this world and he changed motocross forever.

Gerry Marshall simply for being a bit of a bloke, driving sideways in everything and smoking, drinking his way there!

I only watch F1 so would nominate.

Max Verstappen
Fernando Alonso
Gilles Villeneuve

I'm sure there are more exciting drivers but bikes don't interest me and all rally drivers are exciting to watch, so difficult to separate them as a casual viewer.

The most spectacular British rally drivers I have seen were Colin 'Mad Dan' Grewer and Roger Clark .

Grewer was a legend in Yorkshire rallies, driving his Volvo 122 at insane speeds , and even getting into the top ten on the RAC one year . As for his exploits in a Volvo engined Mk 1 Cortina in rallycross ...

The late Dave Metcalfe was also a sight to behold in the Nova .

When rally cars actually resembled the production model & was in it’s purist form... Sounds good too.
Modern WRC leaves me cold.
I do watch it... but it’s not the same. ( gone a bit micky mouse).

Michael Schumacher. I loved that era where Boss Rawn would say “we need a 21.5” or something indicating a lap time that would put them ahead after the stop. Schumacher always smashed it in.

Andy Priaulx - the worlds most under rated driver. Entertaining in every thing he drove from his fathers hillclimb car to WTCC

Wallace Menzies - to be honest I could have picked any of the current British Hillclimb contenders but that run up Prescott last weekend was just on another level.

Disclaimer: I’m a relative yoof and completely blinkered to bike racing and rallying for the most part- BTCC, F1 and clubbie racing floats my boat.

1- Ash Sutton immediately springs to mind. Always on it, seems to know no other approach. Tremendous talent but rarely settles for anything (for better or worse).

2- Michael Holt, clubbie racer in the Jaguar series driving an X300 XJ6. Likewise, a man always on attack mode. Carrying more kilos than the cars he’s around but putting himself in the mixer by seemingly mingling with the cars limits far more frequently, as a result he rarely has a quiet race though he’s had his share of scrapes! (Scenery rather than other cars usually, Mike’s a very clean and respectful racer- not to mention fast!)

3- torn between Verstappen and Kmag, probably going to err on the side of Verstappen- for obvious reasons already well stated above!

ETA supporting evidence for Holty’s inclusion (even if he wouldn’t thank me for it!) Screenshots rather than downloading the full hi-res

Don't get the Kmag thing, a bloke who incessantly hits others is not entertaining in my book, just over aggressive and rather desperate. As it proved.

Thank you all....
I have to look a few of these up... but every day is a learning day.
All noted.
I’m glad that there are a few mohre ‘lesser’ know drivers / riders etc nominated...
If your family, friends, pets etc want to get involved... just put GUEST at the top.
No cheating... ( Ha, ha)...

Spooky... Just spotted Michael Holt listed / retired.. The series is being shown on Freesports.
NB: Nice tribute to the Marshal who lost his life @ Brands Hatch.
TV displaying an ORANGE HEART.
( Rob Foote: RIP + Orange heart)
Respect to the Orange army & all ‘flaggies’
