Stolen overnight in Doncaster

This is my car that was stolen and is still with the repairers waiting to see if it’s been damaged mechanically - if there is the insurers have bluntly said it will be written off immediately - the car was finally put on a ramp today so should know more soon.
Usually we take keys upstairs but my wife and I were both really ill the night the car was taken and left the M4 keys downstairs accidentally though given next doors cctv caught 4 masked men I’m not sure it wasn’t a blessing that we did. Hasten to add we are now far more secure than we were with layered security and I will be adding more.
I don’t really want the car back but if it comes back I have sold my classic car so that the M4 can be garaged and steering wheel locks and ghost immobiliser will be order of the day amongst the many other things I have already done and will continue to do.

They only had the car 25 minutes so I imagine it will be fine though there was a report if it being seen locally after being taken going like the clappers. There are scratches in the lacquer all around the car like it’s been driven down a very narrow tree lined lane too. Unfortunately it’s put us totally off the car but we will wait until it is back to decide if we keep it or sell it - would be a shame as it’s a really nice low mileage example but we will see.

You are familiar with the concept of a discussion board, yes 
I think it's a perfectly valid opinion to express - you said yourself that it was taken by four masked men, who were prepared to break in to take a presumably targeted vehicle. Do you really think if they didn't see the keys on the hall side, they would have shrugged, and gone "oh well"?
I am NOT blaming you for having nice things ( I loathe that way of thinking), but risk mitigation would suggest downstairs, in a shielded container.
I have no problem with opinions - but calling someone “silly” is not an opinion - it is rather more insulting and that I take exception to. There just isn’t any need and it certainly doesn’t help the victims of car theft but unfortunately discussion boards such as this seem to invite keyboard warriors with comments like this. Anyway it’s Friday and I hope you all have a good weekend.
Nobody likes to be called silly, especially when they are the entirely innocent victim of crime and are just trying to prevent a recurrence.
What the poster might have said is that taking the keys upstairs changes the dynamic.
Dependent on the nastiness of the perpetrator, keys upstairs invites them up into your night time space where you will be asleep.
The worst I have heard of is an owner being woken in the night to be confronted by thieves holding a freshly boiled kettle of water over their young child stood at the foot of the bed. An awful position to be put in, and quite obviously one where you would give up the keys.
My best pal has a two expensive cars with keyless go; the keys are in Faraday pouches in the hallway, in a box that cannot be reached via letterbox theft, but if anyone breaks in they will find them easily and disappear. He's happy that that would be the worst outcome.

In 2019 mine was taken in the day,broke into house and took the keys,it was found 3 days later behind the salutation in town.
To look at there was no damage,but internally they’re remove bits looking for the tracker,10k of damage,carbon fibre trims ain’t cheap.
Once I got it back ,someone tried again,so it had to go ,biggest problem now is I’m not prepared to pay the insurance.
Even had them on cctv but they got off,it’s bang out of order.
