Recently bought an Anthem MRX540 and am puzzled.

HDMI input to 540 from Sky Q box - On screen display shows all activities performed with the remote control. If the Sky box is off the text displays on a blank screen and if the Sky box is on the text displays superimposed over the picture.

HDMI input to 540 from DVD player - If the DVD player is off the text displays on a blank screen but if the DVD player is on the text won't display at all. I've pored over the instruction manual and tried googling for an answer but nothing.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Not 100% sure (haven't used an Anthem for a while and never plugged a DVD player in to one).
I think with the DVD on, the text is off the bottom of the screen because resolution output of the DVD player is at 480 or 576 (auto?).
Trying forcing your DVD to output 1080 and see what happens.
No other clues if that doesn't work, sorry.

Well, I (previously voram) owe you a debt of gratitude. It's taken me a few weeks and a dark evening to get to the subject but I've just spent an hour and a half wrestling the 97 page instruction book for my ancient but fancy 2004 Pioneer DVD player. The resolution was indeed set low at 480p presumably for my original Pioneer plasma panel. The highest resolution available (yes folks, page 72 of the instructions) is 1080i so I'm now set to that and the amplifier's displaying perfectly.

Great result, many thanks. smile

And yes, the base Anthem MRX 540 amplifier is absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended. Puts some real grunt into Pendulum's "Live at Brixton Academy" DVD.

Why is it Anthem, NAD, and Arcam that are hi-end AV amps have lots of niggles like this, (sound amazing) but the Jap amps just work.

No problem, enjoy.
The only other thing to point out is that your amp will run in, so i would rerun ARC Genesis after it's been used for a few months.

As a NAD T778 Owner, I have thought the same on several occasions. smile

I take the view that without spending a fortune, you'll have to make compromises, I traded some video functionality for BluOS and great sound quality. If I went for a similarly priced Yamaha, I'd be sacrificing BluOS. and potentially sound quality. Plus comparable Japanese amps won't fit in my AV unit.

I probably could have got better sound quality by using a receiver and decent stereo amp, but usability for the wife/kids was a consideration.

It sounds great though.

I gave it a bit of "run in" yesterday evening - Pendulum "Live at Brixton Academy" DVD. Sample on the link,

On DVD the sound quality is way better than the picture quality, even after my switch from 480 to 1080. Had to back off Bass through the Anthem when using the Dolby sound stream.

I don't use "receivers" at all. The other TV drives a good pair of old KEF reference speakers through a Moon 240i amplifier. Great TV sound without any need for a sub. I think TV can sound great with a stereo set-up that creates a proper soundstage.

(The anthem is running decent, but much smaller, KEF 5+1 speakers.)

I wanted to keep surround capabilities for movies/games.

Compromises again smile

For a 'do it all' system that is easy to use, fits in to our living arrangements and can be used by a 9 year old the NAD was just about the only choice. Plus it doesn't have HEOS, which sucks.
