Hi All,

I'm looking to hire something fun for my birthday weekend (19-21 November) which will be used to drive from Aberdeen down to Gleneagles (via Glenshee, if the weather's OK) and back for my wife and I. I'm wanting something a bit special but not too uncomfortable so thinking along the lines of a Vantage, R8 or 911.

Does anyone know of anyone who would do this for a reasonable cost? I've only found a few options and they're all north of £1k which is a bit bonkers.

F-Type V8 would fit the bill I'm sure. I did it a few years back. Choose between the P450 or 575.

Thanks for that, an F-Type would be bang on but they want at least five days hire to bring it up to Aberdeen which is £1,435 - ouch!

I have tried to convince the wife that I could buy something silly and sell it on again for less than it would cost to hire but she's heard that before with my Caterham and my Cayman R!

Thinks it's only 2 days if you collect from Edinburgh\Glasgow, or at least it used to be.

If you find something reasonable(ish), please post! Since selling my "fun" car, I have now a woohoo fund for renting something nonsensical once in a while. Found very little around these parts.

There's a couple of nationwide renters, but as I recall the delivery charge to AB15 is £700. So yeah, no. I don't mind a bit of fiscal childishness, but not that as a starter...

I can highly recommend Guy and his Father at 7Ecosse just outside Crieff. They have two Caterhams and a variety of hire options. I had one out recently and the whole experience was spot on.

Will local OPC not hep with a loan car if you said you were thinking of buying it etc ?

It’s an interesting thought and I did have a couple of loan 911s from Aberdeen OPC when I had my Cayman but I’m not sure I can be credible enough for them to want to lend me a 992 for the correct weekend! Maybe worth a try but I’m more in the market for a 997 as a weekend toy TBH!

Thanks for that, could be ideal! A bit annoying to have to drive down to Perth to collect but I'm sure we can make something work! Have dropped them a message .

No, I didn't in the end - Porsche Hire Scotland got back to me quickly on Facebook Messenger but plans changed. Hopefully one day!

only used a prestige car hire company once before and it was a nightmare
