driving today, heard a knocking noise from rear left.

it's in time with road speed, doesn't seem to be affected by clutch in or out.

it's like running over cobbles but there doesn't seem to be any vibration.

it 'seems' to stop when I press the brake but traffic prevented me from left foot braking (to keep speed up) to find out.

something stuck in caliper? doesn't seem to be anything in the tyre. wheelnuts are tight. nothing seems loose. driveshaft?

Help!!

I have similiar problem as well! Only noticible going over potholes really loud knocking.. If I manually bounce rear end when car stopped nasty clunking noise, only on this corner (nearside rear) mind. Was going to pop to dealer today.. But loathe going there now as I always seem to be complaining about something... Keep expecting them to say Pi** off and but something else..

mine doesn't seem to do ti when static, only when moving. got new dampers just a couple of months ago so not them and all components were ok at that time.

Next thing to look at is the toe links. With them being so close to the exhaust, the grease dries out and they start knocking (and it gets worse when they're hot)

Try repacking them with grease, otherwise it's a case of new toe link ends from Lotus (although I hear they will now only sell the complete kit - ends, rod and bolts) Other option is an upgrade.

Cheers

Hi Guys:

I know I said I was leaving, but I just can't abandon the Lotus community... ... ...

See following link to a discussion relating to seized ball joints in the suspension assembly... ... ... seem to remember that it has been mentioned elsewhere on this board that toe link failures are often preceded by a knocking sound from the slowly-seizing ball joint. This is a subject tediously close to my heart (as will become apparent is you follow the link...... yawn)

Hope this vaguely helpful...
