Hi all, just wondering if anyone here has made use of any of the Porsche specialists around the area and whether they have any feedback?

The ones I've managed to find are:

D&G Porsche Specialists - Walker
Tom Ferguson - Gateshead
Porsche Centre Newcastle - Silverlink

Thanks

D&G have a good reputation - not used then personally.
Tom Ferguson seems to get polarised reviews - great or terrible. Not particularly cheap from what I’ve heard.

Nelson Porsche in Stockton is the place to go - one man band though and very highly rated so not easy to get booked in! Bit further afield than you asked about, I appreciate. Plenty of his customers travel a long way to use him.

Let me know if you want a run out sometime.

I've been using D&G for 5 years or so and generally been happy. They've just done a major and the front coolant pipes on my 987, the latter necessitating an alignment afterwards. Immediately afterwards, I took the car to Southampton ( still there ) and, as always when here, took it to the alignment centre. Although it drove fine, the car was out of spec, so not ecstatic to be charged £100 to have it done wrongly and only £50 to have it done properly!

Other than that, I've never had a problem with D&G, they seem like decent guys and the prices are fair generally. I'll still be using them.

I can't get hold of Nelson no matter when/how I try! Seem to have a great reputation though.

D&G were fantastically helpful with advice when I was looking at 996's so I'm inclined to try them myself once I need some work doing.

Thanks all. I've heard of Nelson and have only heard good things, although I'm likely to need a minor piece of warranty work doing so was hoping to find someone more local, as a two hour round trip is a bit much really for what I need right now; I will certainly consider Nelson for my yearly service and examination though.

I'll give D&G and Tom Ferguson a call and see what they say about it for this particular piece of work.

Nelson Porsche is 10mins away from OPC Teesside. Two birds, one stone. wink

Ive used AHRS in Bishop Auckland a few times. Definitely worth the trip from Newcastle. Alan, the owner has multiple years experience working with Carrera Cup and supercup teams. Friendly service and attention to detail.

Wouldn't go anywhere else now.

Used D&G across 3 Porsches and had them do an engine rebuild for me too.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, they’ll go above and beyond to make it right too.

I did end up using D&G in the end. Seemed very professional, and a nice set up they had there. Unfortunately they couldn't find the fault (understandable due to the intermittent nature of it), but they did identify other areas to rectify, having done a full inspection of the car. Bit naughty that the place who sold it to me didn't inspect it to the same degree before I sold it. Moral of the story is, I guess, don't expect that buying a car from a dealer, even one with a good rep, will guarantee a better car, it'll only guarantee you'll pay more.

I digress, I will be happy to use D&G again in the future,.

Avoid the Silverlink gang.
I had my fingers burned, expensively with them.

Alan serviced our 996 yesterday. So impressed. Thanks for the recommendation.

No worries. Not sure why anyone would go anywhere else tbh.

For me it's just distance. If they need to keep the car, then I have to get back somehow. I will bare them in mind though for sure.

Wondered if there was any further thoughts on this, I'm Cumbria based and have been happy to travel to Redline Racing as I really prefer to work with teams who knew the Mezger Race Cars but I think Redline have changed hands and not sure if they're still involved in 911 racing?

Its a bit of a trek but RPM on the outskirts of Knaresborough were great when I had my Boxsters a few years ago.

I used Redline for years to look after our 72 911 and was gutted when they went up. However, one of their guys Mike has set up Zeigen Porsche with a colleague in Pickering. Its a bit of drive but they have courtesy car option so you can drop the car off and come back for it. Bit of a hike from newcastle but i'd rather deal with someone who knows their way around the car.

Bugger, that's exactly the type of advice I was after but it's a six hour round trip for me. Mike is the guy who last serviced my GT3 just as Redine changed hands.
