Ignition timing vacuum question v6 cologne
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Just picked my 280i up from getting the timings adjusted - guy who did it said the vacuum was throwing the timing off at revs and so he blocked the vacuum pipe off with a bearing.
Seems to drive fine, but not sure how normal this is as a fix.
Anyone else had anything similar?
Best,
J

unless he was testing it under load on a dyno the timing sounds like it's doing exactly what it should do .. advance the timing over and above the mechanical advance system under part load.
A second opinion would be a good idea but try and choose someone who knows one end of an engine from the other ..

vacuum advance usually is just for emissions and mainly on overrun.
so theoretically you could run the engine without.
before searching a workshop better buy this:
