New for 2021, a new award given to the driver with the most overtaking moves.

Cringey press release, and considering the art of overtaking seems to have been lost with DRS it seems a bit pointless!

I’m gonna take a random guess that Lewis or Max ends up winning it. They’re often enough out of position, and almost always claw their way back through the field to finish well.

As for F1 partnering with a cryptocurrency firm, there’s one big scandal coming down the line…

Nah - Haas will instruct their drivers to swap places multiple times per lap.

Easy: Hamilton for his move on Max at Silverstone.

It was exceptional.

In general I think the idea is cringeworthy and far too easy to manipulate. As a previous poster mentioned any team with two cars running together could swap them around multiple times. The rules for the 'award' would therefore have to stipulate 'genuine' in some way.

The art of overtaking is lost due to DRS …?

I see that said often, but these cars look incredibly challenging to even get into an overtaking position unless there is a big tyre or car delta.

Or people out of position. Lewis/Max overtaking from the back of the field?

It needs to be a net total, so they also lose a point if they are overtaken.

If they qualify at the front they won't have the opportunity.

Does it apply if you pass someone in the pits? Bit gimmicky IMO as its quite cicumstancial, highlighted by the fact vettel stands in the leadrofl

Will it be won by a natural poor qualifier or the most unreliable engine (grid penalties)

The problem is, even after 10 years it's still too powerful at the majority of tracks.

Unless the car in front also has DRS, then there's hardly any defence against it and the overtake is completed half way down the straight. I'm not denying there's skill involved in getting yourself within 1 second, but there's no excitement in sail-past DRS overtakes.

It's probably the best solution to get some overtaking with these cars and tyres, but to me the actual number of overtakes is irrelevant we need some quality that gets people talking.

According to the article in the first post it is currently Vettel in the lead.

If they're going to make a thing of this then the least they should do is actually provide a table of stats for us to dissect, and not just say we've invented this new prize and xxx has won it, without anything to back it up.

That would be the Horner award, claim something without evidence... Perhaps that award could be shaped like a molehill and called the Horner Mountain award. biggrin

I think there's something about Kimi making the most positions at the start rather than an overtaking award.

I suspect there is no danger of Bottas ever winning this award.

Keep it simple...
Quali 20th / Finish 1st = +19pts
Quali 1st / Finish 20th = -19 pts

Then everybody can play nicely...
Reward for doing well & punished if you totally have a disastrous race.

FB3 ( old F3) in Uk has a reversed grid race .
Less finishing points, but bonus points are awarded for any improvement on their grid position.
These all count to the overall championship points...
