I am heading out to France for a bit of a road-trip in my Boxster overnight on 6th Sept. I am looking for somewhere to park the Boxster up over night, preferably close to Metro/train line into central Paris, where I am going to stay overnight on the 7th at the Gfs apartment before we both head off to the South. I am not keen on taking the car into central Paris and she does not have parking at her apartment in the 14th (Mouton Devernet). Safe area on street parking is fine. Any advice/knowledge gratefully received. Also, if anyone has some safe off street parking I would be happy to make a charitable donation wherever you may wish/beer tokens etc.

Driving is driving and the centre of Paris, Rome and Madrid is not much different from the centre of London. On the other hand there are suburbs and suburbs of Paris.

There looks to be a very safe and secure car park near to the Marie of the 14th and you wont have to drag your luggage very far, or risk Covid travelling on the Metro. It will be Paris prices.

The hard part of city-centre driving used to be navigation, but with GPS that is no longer an issue. Waze is particularly good. Top down, you have good 360degree vision, so it will be a lot easier than tanking along the route Napoleon at speed.

Thanks for the advice John. I agree with what you have said. My reason for wanting parking out of the city was partly the cost (as after driving hol may come back for 2/3 days at Gfs place and central Paris prices fairly prohibitive for any length of time) but also I have witnessed Paris drivers and parking. Whilst I feel fairly happy with the driving part, I am less than enamoured with the 'bumper car' nature of the average parking encounter. I think I have sourced some long term secure storage/parking outer city for when I move there in autumn but just wanted somewhere fairly safe and quiet for this coming trip where the demand for parking space would hopefully mean less danger of parking scrapes etc.

I am fairly happy travelling on Metro/RER etc. I was out there on Eurostar for 10 days recently and its much quieter than usual. In the outer leafy areas I would probably be happy enough with on-road parking. Just more recomendations really from anyone who has done similar.

Thanks again John

Rentree will see Paris normal on the 6th so parking maybe more difficult.

First thing is a Critair sticker if you're approaching inside the A86 (the outer ringroad not the periph). After that then, as said above, you take your chances if you want "free" on street parking. Outside the periph, try a suburb like Maisons Lafitte (W) or Bourg la Reine (S) (RER's A and B), where a nice convertible won't be too out of place on the road, provided that you pick your road well, but don't expect to be able to park for the time that you want in less than 10 minutes walk from the station without paying for the on street parking. The website of the suburb concerned will have the parking rate if you end up in a pay for parking area.

I have found reasonable parking (70 euros) through Parclick at Chatillon, which is on line 13 of the metro and only 6 stops from Montparnasse. Secure and accessible 24hrs. Thanks for the replies.

I used to have an apartment in Charenton le
Pont (metro Liberté). Parking at the covered Valmy parking garage there is around €25 a day. Safe suburb (some aren’t…) and I was happy to leave a Porsche there
