Engine oil.. Who is correct????

Ok heres the thing, thinking about a service on my car soon and as I have always done on all my cars I will be doing it myself. So off I pop with 10 mins to spare thinking I will just check what grade of oil is recommended for the 2.9 in my S3. Ok I read the TVR S3 owners handbook and it says that it originally came with and TVR recommend 15W 50 multigrade oil. Fair enough I thinks. Then out of curiosity I cross check that against the Ford recommendation, low and behold they recommend 10W 30!!! So now I have a slight dilemma, I am very tempted to follow the Ford recommendation since it is afterall their engine but why would TVR recommend something different to the orginal manufacturer of the engine?
Any opinions on this?
What grade of oil are you guys out there using?
Since I dont have a copy of the Bible can anyone tell me what it says in there?

I believe the TVR runs hotter than the Scorpio, anyway a semi sythetic 15/40 does the job for me Any opinions on this? What grade of oil are you guys out there using? Uses hardly any oil between changes (6k) -



Here goes,

Engine = API SG/CD = 10w-50/15w-50

Manual Transmission = API GL5 75W/90

Auto’ Transmission = ATF FRD 166H

Differential(s) = LS 90

Power Steering (where fitted) = ATF-DII/FRD 33G

The API SG spec is an old petrol spec for oils and has now been upgraded to SJ/SL however the API specs are backward comnpatable, so an oil with the latest SJ/SL spec would also be fine.

The slightly thicker oil TVR recommend may be because TVR expect the car to run hotter than the average Sierra / Granny. Probably as the result of more spirited driving, or the plastic engine bay surroundings.

I think that's correct, I'm sure I read that somewhere but I can't remember where!
