We usually take the ferry to St Malo or Caen but, for various reasons, we're going by tunnel in the next couple of weeks.

Our house is on the 87/16 border, and I'm looking for an overnight stop between Calais and there. Ideally only two or thref hours from Calais, as we'll already have done three hours in the UK to get to Folkstone.

We have no peference as to accommodation type. Happy with a chalet or somesuch on a campsite, or an hotel - cost isn't an issue, but it needs to be dog-friendly.

Any recommendations?

I stayed at a B&B called La Varenne, close to Chartres, link here:

Nice secure spot with a portion of garden for guests and a very pleasant host.

We don't use those type of places any more. Had bikes nicked on two different occasions. One Ibis, one Campanille.

Thank you. Doesn't appear to be dog friendly.

I’d ask. The chap is very accommodating and, if he can’t/won’t, will probably make a recommendation.

Just stayed here for a second time, 15 minutes from a nice beach to walk the hound prior to the next journey.

Excellent food and brand new hotel, just off the autoroute.

Looks nice, thank you.

Possibly a little closer to Calais than ideal, but we can adjust the tunnel time to suit.

We've stayed at this place to break up our return journey to Calais a number of times, and can highly recommend it. Dog friendly too.

Restaurant (when open) is good value, and rooms are clean and tidy.

Just to update: We've just arrived here. Restaurant's closed, but doesn't seem too far from civilisation. Or horses. smile

Good recommendation, thank you. beer

One hour from Calais (stayed many times + dog friendly. I have added a few of my photos from recent visits):

Hôtel La Chartreuse du Val Saint Esprit

Plenty of parking and you can also stay at The Best Western Hotel (Best Western La Metairie) next to La Chartreuse and can use the bars and restaurants):

Looks very nice smile

Great. As you say, close to civilisation and even closer to the horses. Hope you enjoy your stay smile
